Whatever solution you use, Pour it on a towel and let it sit for about 4 hours. Then try to clean it.

On/Off works fast. DO NOT get it on Galvanized surfaces etc, it will take off the coating. Put on old towel, lay on surface for about 5 mins and rinse with clean towels. Towels will be rags after getting that stuff on them. Do not get on your skin and wear safety glasses.

I was too quick to discount the power of Muriatic Acid........I did what most here recommended, laid a soaked towel of MA over rust stains, in several hours all rust stains were gone!

I have some rust stains where the hand rails meet the fiberglass deck (Formula boat). At what concentration did you use the Muriatic acid and does it damage/dull/etch the fiberglass surface?

I bought some rust and scale remover from the dollar store and use it to remove the film from my stainless mufflers. I wrap them in paper towel and soak it with the stuff. It works on rust stains as well as long as you keep the area wet for a while so it can work.

It looks like "soaking" the rust is the secret...this "slime/gel" worked great! Soak for 20 minutes, flush/wipe with fresh water!
