Anyone out there try to install a SC5000 on a used 370SS or any other 2001 twin 496HO engine formula, having a difficult time getting this figured out and am on the 2nd Mercruiser Certified Mechanic. I had two canbus lines run from the dash to each of the twin 496 MAG HO's which are 2001 models with 2004 ECM units, plug the two canbus lines into a junction box and run a third connection from the junction box to the SC5000. When just one engine is hooked up, works fine under Starboard display in each case, when both are hooked up the ignition does not work for the port engine unless the starboard engine is running and the SC5000 only shows Starboard information....oddly the RPM's seem to be doubled. Have heard I may have the wrong canbus lines, tried a 3rd terminator to no avail and also that you can change the ECM on the port engine from the default setting of Starboard...none seem to stick with the mechanics. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, bonus question - can I use the fuel gauge leads from the VDO guages on this SC5000?

You need to set the port engine location to port. It seems like it is set to starboard. that is why port engine also shows data for starboard. You should be able to set the engine location with the SC5000.
There is a 3 pin connector "multi engine power disconnect" where the blue can cable plugs in to the engine, unplug and cap this for the port engine. this will keep power from backfeeding through the junction box to the other engine. If this was plugged in. Be sure to check the fuses for both motors, as one may be blown from having the two circuits hooked together. When you are setting the engine location, be sure that only the engine you want to set is keyed up, otherwise, you will set both of them. If the multi engine power disconnect is hooked up, both engines will come on with either key, and you will keep setting them both to the same location. You will have to hook up the multi engine power disconnect for whatever engine you want to set the location on (so it powers the SC5000), and unplug the other one, that way only one ECU is on at a time. Hope this helps!
