True, we towed my friends 353 with the cover last year because of rain and it came off and I was behind him and ran it over! He was the person that always said never tow with a cover!! he did once and that was the result!
I never tow with mine, costs alot to replace and if it does rain the interior will be fine if it gets wet, I usually don't tow mine unless its a nice day anyway.

Exactly what I want to avoid and will test with a short tow first.

I'm fortunate in that my cover has straps underneath which wrap around the rear rails (just before the swim step), so I think even if the worst happened and it unsnapped I wouldn't lose the cover into traffic, I'd just have about 17 feet of canvas flapping crazily at the scared, honking drivers behind me

Just don't tow with it.

If it's nice out and going shorter distance I'll go topless!
For longer trips like to use cover to keep dirt & dust out of cockpit.
On one boat w/ used cover it would start to peel off of snaps, so I duct taped down the leading edge for a long trip.
