SHAKEDOWN RUN TODAY!!!
Not too bad:
  1. Had to re-splice the unused Merc trim sensor wires back together to get the trim switches to work correctly. (5 minutes)
  2. Genny did not feed power to the 110 volt panel. (RAddictions fat thumbs had tripped the output breaker on the genny.)
  3. The mess you see in the center picture was caused by a crack in the 45 degree elbow you see in the right picture. When I went to check the oil pressure sensor for tightness, it snapped right off! (Bought the new fitting today, will install it tomorrow.)
  4. Port sea strainer has a small leak around the lid o-ring. Will investigate tomorrow.
  5. Slight "tick" from right bank of starboard engine. I don't think that I put any silicone on the header where it slides into the tailpipe.
  6. Have to check ignition timing tomorrow before any full-throttle runs.
Overall: :D - It was great to be back on the water! The new paint looks a LOT more consistent and silvery than before, too!

SOX 05-11-2008 05:47 AM

Good luck today Chuck! The boat looks fantastic comming out of the building. If you can get some water shots!

R Addiction 05-11-2008 02:54 PM

Yea Yea...My fat azz thumbs!:grinser010: Excuses , Excuses:D

Looks great Chuck, even better in her natural environment.

SOX 05-12-2008 08:30 PM

Well, How did Sunday go?

C_Spray 05-13-2008 06:51 AM

(3) $1.29 brass elbow fixed the oil leak, but it took some work to get everything clean again.
(4) Sea strainer leak could be a bit of a chore. It may have distorted the rim when we cut and re-welded the fittings. I'm going to wind up having to pull them out and work on them.
(6) My 1972 Penske timing light didn't work, so I'll probably have the marina check the ignition timing.

Lots of "Lost Signal" dropouts from the chartplotter, but there is apparently some GPS system testing going on. At one point, it showed us going up I-95 at 768 mph. Looked to me like we were at anchor, but who am I to contradict a GPS reading? :p

Hmmmm - I wonder if that speed will appear on in the chartplotters memory as "Maximum Speed"? That would freak a few people out.....

We've made several nice trips now with no significant issues, although we're still working our way through a few "tick list" items. Garmin replaced my GPS antenna at no charge, so we're good on that front now. By the way - the remote control you see to the left of the steering wheel is for the Garmin 4212 chartplotter. No more leaning forward to try and hit the correct button while bounding across the water! :)

I did find some time to get night-time photos of the engine bay, and to add some Ba-Ling to the dash, by getting rid of the blue gauge bezels for platinum ones and installing the (now-compulsory) eye-talian steering wheel.

(I think RAddiction may have some running shots somewhere...)

Woooo doggies!!

jeff32 06-08-2008 07:26 PM

C_Spray 06-09-2008 01:40 PM

Just get me the %#@*^%#!* pictures.

....Yep - Fun day yesterday, just HOT when you weren't in the water. Glad I nailed that anchoring spot! (Dang! Forgot to save it on the GPS.)

macjazzy 06-09-2008 07:52 PM

Chuck your engine compartment looks awesome in those pics.

Hate to say it though, but those coolant expansion jugs look a little out of place. They could use a little "bling-ification"

Rigging work like that is a huge amount of work, I have been working on adding a generator to my boat and the little bit of rigging I have been doing is driving me nuts.

Trying to get it to look good, be functional and tie everything together is more work than I anticipated. So a project of the scale you did and how well it turned out is a testament to you and your wife.

Thanks for showing us all your work throughout the process.

DKerns 06-09-2008 09:09 PM

Chuck, boat looks awesome!!! Very nice to meet you yesterday. I am sure we will meet up again!

They look way better than they did before I cleaned them up!

They (and possibly the power steering reservoir) are already on the list. Those who make additional "suggestions" like this are expected to provide 50% of the funds towards implementing their ideas. :drink:

R Addiction 06-10-2008 09:25 AM

I like the old ones.....but I'll help install the others if need be:ernaehrung004::cool:

Rippem 06-10-2008 11:02 AM

a couple of those custom coolant tanks would be killer for sure.
They'd really pick up the overall eye hit because of their placement.

what were the PN#(s)?

went to the sitea few days ago, maybe I was too tired, but I couldn't get the cross-reference.

C_Spray 06-16-2008 07:09 AM

"T90" double-contact bulb (Under gunwales and dash):
1142-W12 White LED bulb $ 6.99 (each)
Options: Wide

Miniature wedge-base bulb (In fixtures by footwells):
WLED-x-x LED bulb $ 0.79 (each)
Options: 120 Degree White WLED-W-x 0.60

Either are available in colors as well.

I also bought two stick-on, 6-LED push-on/off courtesy lights. They're less than 3" in diameter, and run (forever) off of 3 AAA batteries. They come with double-stick tape discs, but I put velcro on the back of them so I can put them anywhere and move them around. There are a ton of bezel color and LED color options, and they're only $5.95 each, including batteries!

Got 'em in 3 days, too...

Rippem 06-16-2008 11:22 AM

great!
Thank you C-Spray!

Thanks. It's actually Flagship Silver Pearl, but doesn't show up that way in most pictures.

RAddiction - No boating on 6/21-22, but we'll be out next weekend. Got any suggestions?

Still working on the DVD/Stereo/Chartplotter interface....

Member23845 06-18-2008 11:45 AM

Congrats, all the hard work paid off! Got yourself a new boat!:ernaehrung004:
Very nice, the grey gives it a classy timeless look.

S-i-l-v-e-r, please.... The outdoor shots just don't pick it up. :(

Splitdecision271 06-25-2008 12:18 PM

C_Spray- Would you know if the bulbs in an 02 292 would be the same size that were in your 382? Looking to order the same LED's for mine.

C_Spray 06-25-2008 12:45 PM

Split - Very likely. Have a look at posts #222 and #223. The oval fixtures use the miniature wedge-base bulb, and the gunwale compartments just have a bare fixture that uses the T90/1142-style bulb. Expect to get them quickly - 4 days or less!

jeff32 06-25-2008 09:27 PM

so now! Your boat is ready for sale!!!!

Splitdecision271 06-26-2008 08:40 AM

Thanks C Spray. Will take a look at them this weekend. Probably order them on Monday.

Appreciate it!

Gave the new water plumbing arrangement a accidental workout Saturday. We got into some grass so heavy that it packed one lower unit SOLID. I cleaned out both strainers after getting free, but one engine would just not build water pressure, so we spent an hour and 45 minutes idling back to the marina on one engine. Even though I could back-flush the system with a garden hose, it still wasn't enough. We wound up pulling the boat out Sunday morning and digging the weeds out with a piece of coat hanger with a hook bent on the end of it. I disconnected the water feed hose from the top of the drive and blasted it with the marina's water hose (b-i-g pressure) from one direction and then the other until we finally got it all out. The pile was 6" in diameter and 4" high!!!! After that, it was fine, and we had a great day on the Susquehanna Flats on Sunday. :ernaehrung004:

The good news is that the increasing areas of grass are good news for Chesapeake Bay, but there is still a long way to go.
