re-setting the windsheild
#1
I want to re-bed the windsheild on the 311 this year. It was loose last year so I figured I should fix it. What have you guys used? I was thinking 4200. What problems have you guys that have done this run into?

its sits on a foam strip that sticks to the bottom of the winshield frame . got mine at home depot they have all sizes and shapes . as far as screw holes being bad you can redrill if needed or use oversize but if you redrill any holes i suggest a dab of 5200 in any old holes not being used .i also replace w all new screws and a little silicone on them also .i have done several its not a bad job

I filled all the old holes with a wood dowel & resin and installed the lower part of the frame 1st then installed all the glass.. I went to lowes and bought the foam seal tape to go between the frame and boat, (much cheaper than marine and didnt see a differance).. i had bought some marine windsheild seal foam tape but i lost it

It was a real PITA getting all the glass back in and making sure the frame was aligned properly, especially for the front curved glass.. I used #6 stainless machine head screws and took small washers and ground flat's on 2 sides of the washer so they would fin into the channel because some of the holes in the frame were enlarged. it secured it very nicely
If i were gonna do it again i would remove the whole windsheild in one piece & reinstall it the same way wit the recurit of as many friends as i could get to help lift it on & off.

What did you guys do, lift the windsheild up and move it forward on the boat? How many people do you think it takes? Can 2 do the job? I was thinking about some one lifting the front in the middle and using a 2X4 with straps to span the back so that I could lift it back there and walk it forward on the boat and put it down on padded mats. Does the foam tape stick to the boat or windsheild?

I would be way nervous only haveing 2 ppl, i would want atleast 4 or more if poss.... cause as we all know if it hits the ground.....u are screwed..
When i did mine i took it apart in sections, but when i do it again i will remove it all together simply because it was a pain in the a$$ getting it back together and aligned right in sections.. That is why i will be doing it again, the port side is about a 1/16 of an in back to far... but just gonna live with it for the summer and remove it again this winter.
For the most part the foam tape stuck to the windsheild frame, but did come off pretty easy from the frame.

Are the screws under the Rubber Gasket? So you pull the Gasket , remove the screws and then you could remove the entire Assembly? Is it leaking between the frame and the weather stripping?
What I would like to have is a new rubber Gasket ..... I cant believe its not available or at least there isn't someone that could make some up ....Maybe if we bought 10 sets ? ........m
