I have been on Both of Norts boats and you are correct. NO EXPENSE SPARED!!! If they need something they get it and they are both FLAWLESS!!!!!! Some one is going to get a good deal on that boat.

I'm new as well but think I can help here. Once up on plane you ideally want just your props in the water. Any part of the boat that is touching adds friction and slows you down. Since we all know you can't keep all of your boat out of the water, they cut steps on the bottom of the hull in the areas that are most likely going to be in contact with the water while on plane. Since the hull suddenly disappears and then restarts, it causes slight turbulance, which makes air bubble. The air bubbles have much less frictions than solid water so you can go faster.

Only drawback is it can cause some strange behavior when handling. Instead of cuting through the water, you are slidding across.

ALSO, and this can be important.... I did not think about it before I bought my 312, but A stepped hull boat will NOT allow you to read bottom depth with the internal transducer because of the step, so you cannot see if the bottom is coming up at you! This is important if yoy are running in moderate depths of water as in up channels or rivers & inlets.
You must have an external transduer to read the bottom at speed. If someone has another fix for this I would like to hear it!!

They originally had the tranducer in the engine compartment area. Now I believe they install it up inside the hinged step as you walk into the cabin.
