If the builder missed something that obvious, then chances are another shoe was going to drop. At least you have all of your parts intact and the opportunity to build a motor that will last you for years. Good luck with the build Hunter.

Block is now cleaned, bored to 4.60. Je 10.5:1 marine pistons on order(said to be 3 weeks out). The 088 heads were nice and clean all valves sealed nicely and re ground.
My drain plug is 1/2x13. All of the kits I'm finding for the hose drain are fine thread. Anyone have suggestions before I weld a fitting to the bottom of the pan?

Who’s pan is it? Are the treads npt? You could use a male to female brass 90 in that case and screw the hose into that. You probably know this but, marine bearing clearances are typically a little looser. Especially for a guy like you that likes to wake the ponies up. Are you gen 4,5 or 6?

Gary, this thread is for guys who aren’t on a 90 day boat tour of the US inland waterways. You’re probably making a clocked run at LOTO as we speak. Hope you’re having fun. Now back to oil pans....

It is a regular merc stamped steel 8qt hp500 pan. The threads are standard 1/2"x13. I believe I'm going to just weld a 90° fitting to the bottom ans run the hose with a cap on the end.
believe it's a gen 5 if I remember correctly. I'd have to look for a picture of the casting number to verify.

Still waiting on the pistons to arrive. I need to go get the oil pan and do my drain plug/hose I want to make. May have a friend powder coat the intake silver so I dont have to worry about the aluminum oxidizing.

Been building this guy up for hunting season. Has a 115 yamaha on it. Been playing with props after building carbs and fresh plugs. Got 44mph today art 5500rpm. Not bad for what it is. Plan to get it all cleaned up and painted green/camo in the next few weeks.
