Personally I would pass. Early model and looks to have a good amount of corrosion. Looks like somebody painted over some of the corrosion. How much slop in the gimble?
Does the $ 3,500 include the motor? Even if it does a 330hp 454 with 600 hrs is tired and ready to be tossed.

yes, complete boat with tandem trailer. Big blocks are only good for 600hrs? Damn, I had a 86 260 knocking on 1000 hours and it purred like a kitten. I understand that a brand new big block and a new bravo would be ideal but I don’t want to dump 20k into a 10k boat. I guess I am just looking for a donor and came across this one at what I thought was a decent price but it sounds li not.

Hey, it may be a screaming deal just does not look like it to me. Go look and make up your mind but do yourself a favor and take a knowledgeable boat person with you.
Good Luck

A friend of mine bought a Chapperal with a 454 and a Bravo 1 in excellent shape. A tree had fallen on the boat and jacked up the windshield. The bid he won with wouldn’t get you the trailer the boat was on. Search big block Bravo1 boats for sale on eBay. It’s no guarantee and kind of tricky to win, but I know it can be done. Look at the pictures very closely for clues about condition, because you may not have time to inspect the listing.

Is 600 hours really the end of life for a 7.4?

It really would depend how the engine was cared for and operated. By the looks of that drive and boat for that matter I wouldnt get my hopes up. Poor ole rig looks rough. 600 hours under 3k sure shes got life left. 600 hours with 75 percent of them at 5k I'd bet shes getting tired.
Think of it like a drag car. A season on an engine and refresh it. Sure the engine may only have 500 miles on it by the end of the year but they are wide open miles and hard on it.

How soon do you plan on tearing your engine/drive out of your boat?
