I am still working on getting the dock/boathouse/lift replaced...but drag yours on down for some Gulf time and island hopping.

So far she has exceeded my expectations (condition, quality, and performance) in every way...BUT I am still learning!

Thanks...the motors/drives/condition ALL better than expected, and I'm learning she is fast (enough for me and my experience level)!
Come on over!

Tom,

What’s this F311 run for a top speed with your setup?

I am just gathering data (crawl, walk, run) but yesterday with not very good conditions (crowds and people/boat traffic) with full fuel and four people she did 78.6 mph/gps at 5,100 rpms. I did not have the clean water to work on the trim and had to back down due to wakes/traffic.

Sounds like the old bird can fly! :band:

TomZ 05-24-2021 09:39 AM

That’s moving Tom. Less fuel and passengers will make her an 80 mph boat easy. Stick time will probably get you there by itself!

What are the engines again?

That sounds pretty impressive. It sure looks great on the hoist.

F14A water jet 05-28-2021 01:03 PM

Two people (my Wife and I), 2/3 fuel...80.1 mph (gps). I was too busy looking out for smaller boats to see my rpms, trim position, etc...
But I set a pre-determined high-speed trim setting so I know it pretty close to optimal.
I am VERY pleased!!!
Thanks all for your help/support.

Tom... WE NEED VIDEO!!!

I bet she sounds great!

Wow, that’s pretty good for the “rapture.” I second Tom’s comment..... need some video.

I posted this on Facebook too...BUT Thank you all for your support and for making a great/informative forum.
First "dinner cruise" in our new-to-us 1988 311 SR-1. The funny thing is that the rain squall you can see in the distance (beyond the little island) is directly over our original destination...so we visited an alternate Sunset Grill.

We had The Wharf (Orange Beach, Al.) to ourselves today. :-)
Also saw 80.3 mph GPS at ~5,500 rpms (1/2 fuel 2 people)
17.4% slip :-( Gotta work on my driving/trimming!

Has anyone ever put twin stock Merc 525s ina 311?
would be interesting to see those numbers.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the slip numbers, Tom. Slip isn't necessarily a bad thing especially when trying to get some RPM out of it to work at peak power. Play with the trim some. Smooth water is also the enemy with most straight-bottom boats including ours; a little bit of chop is your friend at speed.

TomZ 10-10-2021 02:05 PM

Tom, what pitch props? 26 or 28? Sorry, can't remember.

The water was pretty smooth, close to glass. I've seen in the past that a little ripple lightens the boat nicely. I'm running Bravo 4 blade 28 pitch. The engine builder said the max sweet spot is 5,400 RPM + -
