What boat? Never heard anyone say the 525 EFI was lacking torque.

Fountain sportfish cruiser. 29 foot. I run a bravo one 24p prop with success but that's all I've been able to run decent. Even a 22p prop that bites hard on takeoff won't plain out on the boat. Unfortunately I'm not alone. I've talked to several people with single engine 525's and stepped hulls that have this issue.

That is a lot of boat for a single prop. Never should have had 1 engine in it to begin with. 2 stock small blocks and bravo 3 drive and you could put 15 people onboard and throw it on plane.

Are you on a Bravo 1? If so, get a Bravo 3XR and it will be night and day.

I'm running a bravo XR. It really feels like it just needs another 100 lbs of torque and it would be all good. It runs 65mph for a top speed which is enough for me as I mainly fish with it. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Those 650hp Blueprint engines are pretty tempting looking for sure. I really wish they offered them with lower compression for 87 octane and would leave the carb off as I'd put fuel injection on most likely.

I wouldn’t mess with the engines.

Call up BBlades and see if they can hook you up with a prop that will get it moving right.

You want torque? How much do you like removing drives and sending them off for rebuilds?

Good point. I'm replacing the clutch cone and top gear set on my XR this winter. I would baby it if I got a more powerful engine for sure. I think I actually damaged the cone on mine because I spent too much time trying to get on plane with props that grip too much out of the hole.

Just got it back from the glasswork this weekend. Shop did an excellent job and confirmed what I believed, working with a very solid structure.

Silent thunder holes have been filled and some various minor cracking dealt with.Stainless plates fabricated and installed for the lower tie-downs.

The two holes at the top will be for the aluminum platform currently being fabricated.

Currently on a search for a nice set of used sea strainers. Since my new drives have low water pickups, like to add them for cheap insurance. Only thing I don’t like on 272’s, the engine compartment. Minimal space to work with.

Time to start mocking things up for the Imco steering install and clean up the stained gel.

I think Tomz mentioned to be sure to upgrade to full hydraulic steering and you should ditch the internal tie bar for an external one. I have a 1995 boat and put a lot of power in it and its awesome 👍 No regrets.

Got a great deal on a used IMCO setup(full hydro).

Still attempting to gather the knowledge to install since I have no experience with these. Unfortunately, haven’t been successful finding any official installation documents.

However, doesn’t look that difficult. Will figure it out.
