Rip,

Yeah!! I love the Lake. Would like to plan the Tronoto thing this year. How 'bout you...still up for it?

What do you, or anybody else, know about Power ASSISTED hydraulic steering? All I could find out is that your helm acts as a pump and your existing power steering unit does the rest. This is an internal unit that replaces the cable. It's a closed system and is priced around $900 for the complete assembly. Doesn't require any holes in the transom either!?! I've never seen one and would like some feedback. Thanks in advance.

Dave

Dave,
I would probably just replace existing cable they are not big money and no swaping helm and other parts makes for less aggravation. Are you confusing external steering for the standard
merc power assisted mounted at the transom assembly?

Good luck with the work

Don,

I think the helm is shot too. Just found out that they no longer make the Morse Command 290 helm and the cables are nearly impossible to find. I'm still looking at other options.

The option to add hydraulic assist works with the existing Merc power assist. The ram goes where the cable used to connect. The system operates individually from the existing power sterring unit. The helm acts as a pump and the fluid stays with the helm only. That's the way it was explained to me?!? Thanks,
Dave
