Default Trim vs. RPM - 223LS

I am trying to get to my optimum RPM in my 223LS with a 461 around 470 HP. Being a small boat on the LI Sound, I haven't found a calm enough day to trim it past 1/2. Yesterday I was running 5000 RPM trimmed between 1/4 and 1/2, tabs up. This is with three people, 1/2 tank of fuel 23 pitch Mirage Plus. I know Craig223 is running a similiar setup. I am wondering what trim setting will I get my optimum RPM with this hull? Craig, if you are around I'm wonder what your trim setting was for your top end runs? Motor is built to run up to 5400, and the closer to this the better (running worked Rect. port heads).

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hey Scott,
You need to go out with a handheld gps and experiment. My boat tops out at about 5100 but actually is slower than it is at 5000 (trimmed down a little). Max trim for me is about a quarter or a little more on the gauge. Trimmed up more looks cooler, but isn't as fast. I'm sure that what type of prop has alot to do with what the optimum trim is (I'm currently running a 4blade 23 pitch Hydromotive).

Thanks Craig,
I'll have to play around with it. My GPS12 died (it won't aquire satellites) so I have to get a new one. I feel my motor has more to give, it's just over-carbed with the 850 Holley and I haven't found the optimum jetting yet (looking for a used 800 Holley) - I'm running rich at this point so not to grenade the motor.

Thanks,
Scott

Good luck!! I'm running a Holley 835cfm I think and it isn't too much. Idles great in drive @650 rpms. I have no idea what size jets are in it.

By the way, my boat is for sale in the "boats for sale section" Check it out.
