mopower has a friend with a 242 running over 70 from 535 HP so it is doable. I am going to sell my SS but I too like all the space it has. Sometimes I wonder if I will regret getting rid of it. |

I have an '84 242. Bought it back in Feb. I've had it out a few times this summer. Getting rid of the purple striping and going to black or dark blue. Replacing the Purple Formula lettering and logo as well. I'm building a 383 SBC and converting it to fuel injection this winter.

I used to have same exact boat as Monaco. I replaced it for the LS version. I like the looks of the LS better, I think its also a stiffer boat but I miss all the room I had in the SS. I added bolsters to mine which are great for the rough stuff but at anchor they stink. Before you sell the SS really think about how you use your boat. I'm glad I have the LS due to how I like to use my boat, but if I didn't go out in the rough stuff much the SS is a more usable boat.
As for power I have 525+ hp and I'm seeing around 65 mph in medium chop. I need to get my prop repaired as well as get the bottom to 100%. It was painted and I've managed to get about 95% of it off. Lucky for me the previous owner didn't prep the bottom so the gel coat is in perfect condition. Either way to see 70 mph in a 242 everything is going to have to be dialed in 100%. Formula's are wave crushers not speed demons! |
Merry Christmas :drink:
Did you experience differnet performance between the LS and the SS ?? It supose to be the same hull 24,2 feet and 24 degrees V. The driver posision is closer to the bow, because of the shorter deck on the SS. Please explane what is the difference between the 2 modells regarding driving and the performance :-)

JimJam--sure i'll take it away for you. Seriously would love to drive up and tow back. Now that my 2 youngest kids are 4.5 yrs old, that would be the boat I would get back into boating with. Post some pics, I'm sure you wont have a problem moving it. Good luck and if I hit a scratch ticket, I'll be calling. Bill
