Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Ted - Did you notice that you and I were the only ones with sufficient boat control that we were able to get our cards from the cockpit. Everyone else had to have someone scramble out onto the foredeck....

I don't understand why people don't realize you can control your boat MUCH easier with the shifters, not the steering wheel in docking manuvers. |

Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
I'll tell ya, I have seen some very impressive hardware...hit the dock really hard trying to pick up a card on the end of a 20 foot long pole  It seems like people feel the need to nose in and then back off, which doesn't work in some conditions. Or the ones that drive by too close and forget about the stern steer when pulling off-ouch.
One of the most impressive moves I have seen on a card pickup was Ed Mosmiller (RIP) in his turbine Skater. Sidled up near the dock at about 1 mph, walked it sideways about 6 feet in and then 6 feet out, and then pulled slowly away-pretty impressive with 1400 HP turbines and surface drives. |

With regards to the above "misquote" after much thought for a reply I can only come up with "bite me". :D :D
WHEN my boat is in the water I can parallel park that thing, as opposed to THOSE who's docking efforts at a certain Holiday Inn are still spoken of today.....:D :D |

Forklifts....an essential tool for powerboating boating. That's a familiar sight.

Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Chuck 21401....So far I have had my 357 for four seasons. Never a problem with the drives. Change oil every 20-30hrs just because. I had them apart when I first aquired the boat just for curiosity. I repalced the bearings and u-joints only because they were right in front of me. I think I had about $200.00 in over the counter bearings, seals, and u-joints. The boots are expensive about $300.00 per side, available only thru Archer Marine. They are a very simple set up. They claim upwards of 700hp is acceptable. I would think they could handle more than that. No complaints here!!

Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Like PM said, the parts are over the counter parts other than the case and the boots. I haven't had any trouble with mine at all, other than replacing a boot.

Here's mine...1988 357 SR-1 Built a pair of 500 horse lower compression 454's out of the old 420's with the help of Dennis Moore who helped me with the build sheets. This boat rides like a Caddy. Pro chargers with intercoolers going in this off season :D

Offshoreratboy , Thats A Nice Looking Unit ! Did You Ever Get The Swim Platform Mods Done ? Whats Your Top Speed With The Motors You Have Now ? Good Luck With Your Winter Project Of Adding The Pro Chargers ! Keep The Pictures Of The Updates Coming !

Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Thanks 357, Not yet on the platform...The engines are just broken in and I can only get up to 57 at the moment but that is at 4400 with 4 blade 24 pitch hydros and a fould bottom so I'm sure once I get the blowers on I'll be able to turn them up to the right rpm (looking for 5000). Kind of planned this whole thing this way, via the lower compression, just could not afford the blowers this year. So I'll have to live with the 57 for now. How fast is yours? What is the norm for this hull?

offshoreratboy--
Nice looking ride!! My 86' 357 with spruced 420's & Kamma's so far on flat water have seen 65 on gps. Need some chop under these heavy- weights to see good numbers. I am interested to see how you blowers work out. What compression are you running? What mods gave you 500 hp on those 420's? |
Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Yours looks nice..I almost picked up an 86, I like that paint scheme. The Engine's are as follows, fourty over with speedpro forged .100 domes with Merlin large ovals, I ported and polished them right out of the box and smoothed over the cumustion chambers. The cam is 515/520 lift dont have the duration #'s with me but Dennis Moore set me up with the sheets and he said 490/500 horses. I wont know the true potetial for these engines untill I put the superchargers on them. I am anly at 8.2-1 Comp ratio right now. I plan to run them at 3.5 lbs. of boost to start. I travel alot with this boat so it must be very dependable. You have 420's?
|
Re: Post pictures of your formula!!!
Offshoreratboy
yes 420's. Crower Cams(don't have specs) and performer rpm dual plane intakes. I run them 5200 rpm. Would love to have about 100-150 more hp. This would greatly improve overall satisfaction. I also travel long distances and need dependability. I've heard good things about the 420's built with blowers. Can't wait to hear how yours turns out. Keep us posted. I'm looking to make a trip to your neck of the woods next summer. Detroit to PI bay. I heard it is a fun trip with lots of surprises and shallow water. Haven't boated in Erie yet but looking forward to new sights. Perfectmix |
