Default Help me decide.. Blower hatch or scoops

I am having a pair of blower motors made for my 302. They will require me to raise the hatch about 4" or so OR add blower scoops. I was kind of thinking about getting rid of the swim platform and going with the scoops but can not decide btwn that or just raising the hatch up alla the picture below. This boat is going to be FAR from stock so I was thinking maybe just going totally off the wall with it.... The scoops should have the added benifiet of a little more air getting in there but what I worry about is stuffing in the ocean and hydro locking the motors......

And just to beat you to it Cuda I KNOW THAT I HAVE TO USE THE BOAT TO ACTUALLY WORRY ABOUT HYDRO LOCKING THE MOTORS!!!!

A friend of mine raised his hatch with spacers on a 311. It worked well and didn't look bad.

I think scoops would look cool because no one has them on a formula, but whatever looks nicer is what I would do.

I vote for the hatch over scoops.

I agree with Cuda. Also, the scoops allow the blower whine to be directed right at you, and it can get really loud. On "Addiction's" Tiger, the blower whine is so loud you HAVE to wear headphones.

I'd just raise the hatch and add some side and rear louvers like in the picture you posted.

When testing, I ran my 311 without the hatch. The blowers were so frickin loud it did hurt, and I have only 174's (not sure what you are doing). With hatch on, it is so much more quiet, and definitely tolerable. So my vote is for raising the hatch.

What are you building BTW? Are you changing drives?
