In january I started looking into building up the HP in 311 along with rebuilding the drives. Then I went to the Miami boat show. Bad idea, now I am off thinking about re-doing a new boat. I have been a formula guy my intire life thanks to my Dad and don't want to change brands.
I want a boat that is fast on stock power and good on fuel, So here is my idea:
I am trying to find an older F2 382 (becasue I don't need all the nice features and they are usually lighter weight) without the drives or engines. For engines I want to use diesels either 440 or 315 yammars tied with BMax driver on boxes. I know most people don't like diesels, but I am an mechanical engineer for a diesel exhaust emission reduction company and have grown fond of there durabillty, power and fuel economy. So if any of you know where I can find an old race boat let me know.
Thanks
Don

There's a never powered, never run, plain white '99 F-2 boat on boattrader. I think Randy Sweers has it listed also.
The one at TNT with 500's and Firestorm paint is listed as sold.

Rippem-
I have been looking at that 99' F2 for a few weeks now. I would like it but I think it is over priced for what I am looking to do. I think I should be able to pick up an older F2 boat about half af what that one is going for. I missed out on one in November that would have been perfect. But i didn't have the money......
Also I just wanted to say that your 353 is one of the nicest I have seen. Did you buy your's from Erickson Marine in MN? I live about 15 minutes from threre and looked at that boat almost on a monthly basis. When Eric told me that it was sold I was a little sad. But it is good to see it found a good home.

Dgduck, the diesel craze is catching on. With common rail injection and lighter alloys the diesels are becoming more attractive all the time. Don't know if you caught it but one of the magazines did an article lsat summer on a 36 Spectre (I think it was a Spectre) with the Yanmars. They had to run a 1.25 gear and huge wheels to deal with the lower rpm of the diesels but the boat went 108mph!
The thing is it will do it all day, every day for thousands of hours of operation. Keep the fuel/water seperators changed and ROLL! Keep us abreast of your progress if you find a hull.

Croozin-
I did read that article, and it was the first time I seriously thought about this project. From all my calculations I figure a boat set up with 440 yammars or 500hp would run the same top speed, it might suffer a little in handling but it would be more than made up for in gas mileage and less mantinence. I will keep you all posted.
