Yes, that makes sense, the water pump for the pressure water system is under the galley sink, the one under the step must be for the front bilge, and it must have a bad float switch, because the wire was disconnected and when I re-connected it the pump ran without shutting off.
Thanks, for the help US-1, there are a lot of systems on this boat, it will take a while to learn them all.

I have a couple more questions for the Fountain Brain Trust here.
The GPS speedo does not work, it is a dead soldier, any thoughts?
Also the depth indicator is in-op. Everything else seams to be working OK.
The cable that drives the port drive indicator gets hung up, is there a way to lube or frre up those cables?
I took it out again today, beautiful day out, almost 80 degrees, and the water was nice. It ran 79 mph on a hand held gps with out letting the tabs or drives up too far. Later in the day a guy in a Scarab came out to play and that time I let everything up, the boat seems fast, much faster than earlier when I was more conservative with the drives and tabs. I beat him by about 5 mph, but didn't have the portable gps out, I would guess we may have been running 85+-. The boat felt very light, almost trying to fly.
It is much more sensitive than my old 32 Spectra Deep V. I like it alot.
It seems like a very finely tuned rig.

If there were 2 disconnected wires at the step bilge pump (1 to the pump, other from power), the float may have been removed as it would have been wired in with those 2 free wires. When you hooked them together, that just ran 12v directly to the pump, which is why it ran (no switch). That's my bet. Probably got broken from stuff being stored in the step.
Might be able to see a couple of empty screw holes next to the pump where the switch was mounted.
No experince with GPS speedos, can't help ya there.
The depth gauges seem to be few and far between on working in Fountains. Does it not work at all, or just at speed? Mine only worked when the boat was stopped. Once in gear even at idle, it would read 5 ft.
Once on plane, raise them tabs and drives up. Keeps the boat from plowing, plus faster. I always raise the tabs all the way up after on plane, then drives out, then drop the tabs a hair.
Check the trim cable back at the drive for binding.
BTW, nice outfit.

forward bilge pump:
There is some type of enclosed float switch there, the pump is wired through that switch (I didn't know what it was), the wire that gives power to the switch is what was disconnected, therefore, the switch must be bad.
Depth indicator:
I never looked at it when not running, I will have to check that it also seems to have condensation in it, perhaps I need to send it back to the factory for an overhaul.
Trim:
I will try your method, there certainly is a lot going on when comming up to speed.
