If your engine builder is your "really" good friend he will buy the parts for you to get 1,000 per side. Cause I would guess you will need what, close to $20K ea to build a bare bones motor that would be entry level perhaps?

PS if you check out some of the Viper engine builder websites(HEFFNER -Hennessey ) they are getting 75000-100000 for a single BUILT 1500-1750 horsepower Twin Turbo.The guy who does my engines (modern performance ) is also very experienced .As i said 1000 hp can be achieved with very low (intercooled )boost levels and comparatively speaking cheaper than doing a Viper.

No disrespect to Nick...he does good work..but his marine engine building experience is limited..
the last set of engines I saw in a boat from him was a Chris Craft called Gone Banana's and they were about 400 hp with two bolt mains. I know Nick did some good things with ther Merkur's but 1000 hp blower motors in a boat that's going to run 5500-6000 rpms sustained in offshore conditions...it's a whole different ball game. Again, no disrespect to Nick. Got any questions give me a call. |
Frank ,if you tell him the intended use (Nick ) is certainly capable.He does all Bob Idas (famous hot rod builder ),work ,last month recently did a twin turbo Viper engine that dynoed at over 1200 horsepower.My street driven Viper on engine makes 700plus .Believe me 1000 hp out of close too 600 inches is easy.(esp with a 1471 intercooled blower)

Making power is easy, making is last is a different story....
There's a guy in Keyport who does roundy round motors..nascar and other stuff..I still wouldn't let him touch my stuff.. Again, no disrespect to Nick..he's a nice guy... |
I am pretty secure that as long as first grade marine componets are used(Dart block,Crower4340 crank,Oliver billet rods,JE forged alum pistons ect ) and the air-fuel is correct Nick can handle the job.Remember i want to run in the 1000 hp range(relatively easy for 572 cu inches ).Its interesting i went thru the same thing when i first started drag racing the Viper.People said its a specialized engine and i should go to a specialized engine builder (parts cost, complexity ect )Only after the car began to win and the engine survive did they realize Nick could handle the job.Dont get me wrong iam sure there are certain nunances to marine applications But if the parts are first rate and the air-fuel is correct the other stuff should fall into place.

Check around before jumping in head first....
I've already been down that road before it cost me a boat load (literally) of money... Other than "myself" there's only a few people that I trust with my stuff and you already got an estimate from him.. Any questions give me a call. |
