What are you are looking for?

I just got this

I just got this from the guy that bought the 35 from Shogren.

I ended up buying it. Tell your buddies that the thing comes out of the hole like #6 drives with the minus 2 shorties. You have to find the sweet spot in the RPM range to get out of the hole…about 4500. I don’t think 5 blades will work at all. Once on plane, the shorties work great. Midrange to top end is awesome. If I lower them an inch, I suspect it will cost me about 3-4 mph, but planing will be easier.

I think your better off spending the money and time dialing in the right props. When you get to high you make up for it with 5 or 6 blade props and throttling becomes a concern.

what speeds is he seeing, the add read 90mph, is that right? what work has been done to the boat?

stock it seems they run 85mph, i believe he has -2" shorties, 6 blade props, bottom work, low profile windshield...

did he touch the motors at all?

I've mostly been looking at 06-07 32 Sunsations. Starting to look harder at 35 Fountains now. I really don't need to go that big but there maybe some better deals in the Fountain market right now.

You boat the river or ocean?

Boomer,

I don't have all the details, maybe he'll let us know.

GatorDave 01-21-2010 01:26 PM

99% in the river. If I spent more time in the ocean I'd be looking for something bigger. For where we run 30-32' is plenty of boat.

Guy from our lake traded the 35. He claimed he spent 50k on the motors. Ron Sporl made them 675hp. 15k on the first 2 XR's, 8k on low pro, 8k blueprinting, ect.... It ran mid 90's (he claimed 100). With 1/2 inch deeper lowers it would plane easy but he could not loose the 1-2 mph. Everyone here would laugh and joke about his 4500rpm burnouts trying to plane. Usually took minutes to get on plane. It broke a drive about every two weeks from the burnouts.

Boomer35 01-21-2010 07:02 PM

any idea what gains you saw from the shorties?

sounds like a beast of a boat by the way

Hey! I am the original owned of this boat. Yes! we had a lot of days of testing on our lake. People with non stepped Fountain hulls would probably think it was funny until they got there bubble busted and ego lower when we went by them at 80 on our way to 100. After lots of changes we decided to take the boat to bryan at Fountain for the rite set up. The boat was documented at the factory running 100. All high x Fountains cavitate to get on plane including my current boat with #6 drives. It does the same thing and it came from the factory that way. I am sure the man who owes this boat now would be glad to confirm the speeds also I think he would appriciate lose lips to stop attempting to depreciate his major investment.
Yes! the boat would break a drive after 60 or 70 hours of use as any boat with 700 HP plus and XR drives will (that is what spare drives are for).
If you want to sacrifice speed you can lower the x the boat was set up for top speed. This will cause slow planing just like a new 35 does but they run 100. When we bought this boat you had to put a lot more $ into a boat than you do today to reach triple digits so we decided to build a boat. Just as we finished the boat the 35 staggered came out. that is a few reasons why we bought the boat we have now.
We also have a copy of the sheet were Precision Marine set the motors up if anyone needs proof of the power. By the way I have a remote that went with the boat and would be glad to get it to the new owner
