A current day set up will out run more power and be more reliable. find someone who knows current set ups. Or throw a bunch power at it and have to baby it or buy some spare drives, The differences in opion are great.

It appears that you know alot about current day setups. How about sharing your thoughts on how to make older boats faster.
Thanks,

Tell me a hull # I will try to help, But 00/ 04ish are low some of my experience you can only raise the gimbals a liitle then put a 3 inch shorty to get the heigth where its best, right props, cavatation plate work boats right on plane and faster.

Hull # is FGQ357GO01. According to the report the boat has 18" drive heigth. My current setup is 500 efi with Vortech superchargers that have had the camshaft changed and made a little north of 800 horsepower and 700 foot pounds of torque with imco scx drives with -2 shorties sc lowers with 1.34 gears. The boat seems to like the hydromotive p5x props (even though it is a little hard to get on plane).
I have run the following props:
31 X 15 1/4" p5x boat ran 110 MPH @ 5700
33 X 15 1/4" p5x boat ran 111 Mph @ 5400
32 x 15 1/4" maximus at 108 MPH @ 5600
34 x 15" maximus at 105 MPH @ about 5300
and a few others that were not note worthy.
The maximus come out of the hiole a whole lot easier than the p5x but the boat is much loser and gets upset at the least little bit of waves (bass boat wake will upset it).
Currently I am building a fresh set of motors that should make just north of 1000 hp and 900 foot pounds of torque. What kind of speed can I expect to see from this?
In your earlier post you talked about 3" shorties and cavatation plate work. This interest me very much. However it looks like to me with the 3" shortie you would be limited to about 14 3/4" props unless I was to do the cavatation work you mention. Can it be done on an scx or a normal xr for that matter. can you kind of describe what you have did? and what can of speed gains I might expect?
What is the optimum x deminsion? How fast can a 35 go before experiencing bad driving habbits?
Any light you can shed on the above questions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Allen

A good friend of mine was right around 110 mph with a '97 single step Bravo set up with some 800'ish blower motors.
Years back when I was looking for my single step there was one for sale with the Merc 900SC Poker Run motors and sixes for sale that was somewhere around 118 -120, if I remember right, might have been as high as 125. Never heard of any more than that.
Kelly O's boat, a 35 twin step with sixes, I believe ran high 120's at the factory with the 700 Mercs. Kinda gives you a reference for what Reggie has done with the hulls, more speed from less power, pretty much puts it all in perspective.

I was the one he was reffering to regarding the #3's.
The boat we removed them off of ran 103 with 750 HP N.A. motors. The drives/transmissions never had a problem with this power.
You do not have to cut the back of the swim platform to make them fit. We did for the 6's.
I am not sure about weight, but I would seriously doubt they weigh more than a bravo.
The transmission is much better than a bravo as far as strength and much more positive feel during docking.
The bullet of the #3-5 is significantly smaller than a bravo and offer better prop options.
In addition, there are now net forged gears availble in the event of a failure.
The boat these came off of had a blower motor. With pulleyy and everything, there was no special modification needed for engine room. There is also another guys with a older purple boat and blowers with a similar setup.
I frankly dont see any way you could want a bravo over a speedmaster.

Not quite sure which one you feel is BS.
Monte ran a best of 110 in his '97 35, I was in the boat full of fuel with four people @ 105 a couple of times.
Kelly O's boat has been talked about on here. Do your own search on that one.
