If you were going to get a single what engine would you recommend? ( keep in mind 2003 or newer boat, reliable, and least amount of maintance, so 525, 575, or 600)

HP525...

Runs on 87 octane, boat will kiss the 80 MPH mark and I have had no problems since new in September 2003.

mine has 500HP seems to be a good combo not as fast but reliable

that would be my choise too.its a carbed motor so most anybody can work/tune it.just be sure to change the valve springs at about 250-300hrs.i have heard and seen horror stories.

Wouldn't the 2001 be a EFI motor, or did they still make a carb one?

575sci. Still low 80s but alot faster out of the hole and to 80. A 525 or 500 won't even be close. Plus you get the blower noise. No issues with my motor since new.

From what I understand and what I am reading the new 525s put out almost similar numbers to the 575s. Your right about no supercharger whine or bling factor. I also wonder if they have the accelration that you get from the 575.

mine is an EFI no blower noise and no blown drives. I'm not knocking them, just would not be good for me. The few I have seen in this area are fast but have had outdrive issues

A normally aspirated motor is going to be under less stress than a blown one. I think you will find you spend very little time at full throttle.
