My brother has 47' on Myco with EOH brakes and pintle hook. The trailer is licensed for 23,000 lbs. and is pulled with a Peterbilt model 377 tractor he first used Chevy DRW 4x4 however it was not safe for long hauls.

As of right now I'm in the market to replace either mine or my wifes vehicle, and were debating which way to go. My current truck (02 f250 superduty, ext cab shortbox 7.3 diesel) is just too short, I didnt even like towing my 38' fever 8hours. Rythmic bumps, caught some windy areas that pushed the truck around, it actually made me miss the additional wheelbase of my 03 chev crew shortbox hd with the 8.1 gasser. I'd love a dually, I just cant see daily driving one.

I'm weighing my options out, and trying to prepare to get a 47 in the next 2 years.
This is what we're thinking
Option 1- By wife a brand new crew cab shortbox 1 ton, and I run my 7.3 into the ground.

option2- Wife gets my 7.3, I go out and by an 95-97 f350 crew cab longbox 7.3 srw

Option3- By a designated tow rig just for the boat and keep it in storage, I'm thinking a older 80-90's big block gasser crew cab long bed dually. Just a big old tank.

My wife love the 1st one.......I'm leaning twards the last.

Option 1....towing with a new diesel is miles better than the older 7.3s....

Honestly if your using a high quality up to date HD trailer EOH brakes etc. to handle the boat then the truck is less important. If your using an old worn out trailer that can not handle its own load then yes a truck can act like a banaid to the towing problem.

All your options work but option 1 sounds the best

I personally tow a 51' car hauler with upgraded SRW Cummins for over 1 million trouble free miles (between multiple similar rigs)
