Even though the #6 has been around for years it still looks like a cutting edge design.

No they do not.

That is a great boat! My buddy had it for several yrs in TX.

One quick tip.... With as much work and detail as you are putting into this project, do yourself a favor, put in some alum tanks. It may be a bit more money and time up front, however, it will save you headaches and will probably make the boat more valuable in terms of resale.

KWright 02-20-2017 06:36 AM

I thought the same thing. Josh the last owner had just put brand new bladders in it, but there was still a strong fuel smell. I pulled the floors and pressurized the tanks and went after them with soapy water. I found one fill hose that the inside was folded over from prying it off with a screwdriver. After pulling the tanks and looking them over I decided to give them a try. It really isn't that big of a job to pull them. We found a few areas that could cause some chaffing issues. So we cleaned them up. We also have made the cells more secure with the way we're going to hold them in. Time will tell.

The transmission bolts to the front of the midplate.

Isn't that the tail stock of the transmission?

Crude Intentions 02-20-2017 10:49 AM

Awesome. Love these boats. When you say 565s is that the merc 565s or is this some custom built 565ci engines? May have missed it if you said.

It is the new M series closed coupled connection. The same as the M8. Your trans bolts to the mid plate this way you don't have to have transom specific for drive line or closed coupled. You can do either with this style. I will post a picture of it with the drive line kit as soon as I get back to the shop.

Drive line attachment.

Does the design help reduce engine room space used by partially putting it in assy?

M8 close coupled attachment.
This way the M series transom can be used for either.
Also same trans. Just need the flange for drive line.

No that's where your driveshaft would bolt to.

KWright 02-20-2017 01:38 PM

Not to confuse anyone the close coupled is the same as the plug in.

Unlimited jd 02-20-2017 01:40 PM

That's awesome, about time they used a simple crossover design. How long do you plan on keeping this boat? I'm gonna start stuffing my piggy bank and eating peanut butter sandwiches now.

Look Like their newest,72L-HP. Although Velvet Drive isn't owned by Borg Warner anymore, division of Regal Beloit.
