I think the weather has "frozen" everybody's enthusiasm! Things will pick up again.

FastFountain35 01-31-2004 01:03 PM

i was thinking we should push the meeting to april, so we can get more people togther. by then we should have a much larger list. just a thought.

nolimits 01-31-2004 03:30 PM

I think we should hook up anyway and talk about it. If we put the energy in, we will have some firmer idea's that can be shared with the rest. Perhaps the issue is that we keep talking about it in generalitise rather than specific ideas. We don't have to make absolute plans, and maybe we shouldn't. But by having two or three well thought out ideas we have a picture we can paint. Perhaps those not familar with the waters will then have the oportunity to embrace what we are talking about. Look it up on some charts, generate more questions and interest. Make it better.

I also think that people are often happy to follow along as long as the plan makes sense. We will have people who say they are in, who won't show and others who will join at the last minute. I think thats how these things go....

It's up to you guys, I just think it takes more time to perfect a plan than less. But I as I said I am easy.... Although I would like the idea of just hanging out and shooting the bull.

Steve

FastFountain35 01-31-2004 03:40 PM

21st it is. told you guys i wasnt that bright.:)

nolimits 02-03-2004 06:08 PM

gferdon 02-08-2004 07:08 PM

We still have a couple of weeks...

G-

carney 02-10-2004 12:01 PM

We are still in , been away riding snowmobiles. Is the date set for sure and I need to know how to get where the launch is and the best routes and time to come through the city. We are country foke don't know how to deal with heavy traffic. How many people said they would show.

nolimits 02-10-2004 06:23 PM

The Finger Lake boys are back!

How was the snow, there is enough of the white stuff down here. It's been years since I snowmobiled.

The date has been set for May 15th, with a rain date of May16th. On the 21st of this month, the locals planned a meeting at a local resturant to discuss and perhaps nail down a route. A drivers meeting has been suggested but a date have not been firmed up.

At the "route" meeting we will appoint someone to put together the best route for you guys to get down here. I can even put a few of you up at my place if you want to come down Friday night (drivers meeting night?) and even leave on Sunday. Depending on how many are coming we could also get a local motel etc.

We had a bit of a lull, but things are heating up again. YEA!! I would guess a min of 7 boats, but the more the better.

Welcome back!!
Steve

FastFountain35 02-10-2004 07:49 PM

i just escape out of a avalanch.:D :D. i know there will be alot more then 7 boats  ihope any way.

gferdon 02-12-2004 09:59 AM

Greg etal...

Looks like we are back on track, just PM'd Steve to suggest a possibly moving the route meeting to a different date to accommodate wetkitty and perhaps others...let me know what you think.

Finger lakes crew...we will do whatever it takes to make your trip as uneventful as possible...more info to follow.

G-

FastFountain35 02-12-2004 05:12 PM

sounds cool to me.

gferdon 02-15-2004 12:22 PM

Well, the 21st is less than a week away...what shall we do? My inclination is to wait a couple of weeks to see if we can generate some more interest? Any words of wisdom?

GF

nolimits 02-15-2004 01:04 PM

I am behind whatever is decided... What can I do to help.....

Steve

nolimits 02-16-2004 01:07 PM

Guys,

Have the day off and visited Monster Marine my mechanic. Lots of action down there and I hooked up with several guys I haven't seen since Fall. I mentioned our plans to them and ....

There is a Superboat 24 and a Formula Fastech 35 signed up. The Superboat and Fastech believe that their Sonic 26 Prowler buddy (who I have meet - nice guy) would be in. They are up for a route meeting this weekend. If we postpone it, I can always reschedule with them.

I have an "ok let me know when and I am in" pledge (I think) from a 38 Fountain for the run, not te planning. The Fountain by the way is the APBA 98 and 99 National champ. Also his bud a 42 Fountain might show - real fast boat.

We need to decide what we are going to do this weekend though..... I don't want to build momentum and then drop the ball..

gferdon 02-16-2004 02:01 PM

OK, lets keep the date on the 21st, whoever makes it will be welcome. We will finalize the route, etc. and post the results. I will see you all at the Sonoma Grill in Holbrook at 1900 Saturday evening. Wives are welcome!

GF

Steve...wish I would have known you were headed down to the shop, I would have liked to see it and talked with the boys. Took advantage of the "warm" weather this past Sat. to finally clean off the road filth picked up on the tow back from Tom's place. It came out great and my son and I fitted and installed the new cover. It too worked out very well. See you Saturday.

FastFountain35 02-16-2004 03:49 PM

ill be there with with bells on.

nolimits 02-16-2004 04:00 PM

OK, They'd better show...;) As for the shop, it's hit and miss. Sometimes it reminds me of my "car days" on 231 a life time or two ago. Lots of players, joking, bragging, sharing etc. Other times my it's just the guys turning the wrenches. It's hit or miss. But even so, the boats are there and they all have one thing in common, they're fast. We'll set something up. Next Saturday, say early afternoon???

nolimits 02-16-2004 04:10 PM

What about you Gregg? Want to take a trip to the Garage???

gferdon 02-16-2004 06:24 PM

Saturday afternoon has promise, let me know what's up.

G-

FastFountain35 02-16-2004 07:11 PM

im lost ,whats in the garage!!! must be good im in.as long as it has nothing to do with a sail i like it.:D :D :D

nolimits 02-16-2004 09:52 PM

Greg,

The garage is nothing more than a shop I use, to have my boat made better and kept healthy. THere are some cool boats there and often some fun people to hang with. It's a part of my world. The guy that has the shop has worked at Performance, MRD etc. He knows Richie Zull and others. One of the Fountains that is currently there is the 98 and 99 APBA National Champ. The guy who owns it raced with the Regg himself. Sometimes it's dead and at others its not. It's about showing you some of my contacts I guess....

I'll PM you and Gary with more info....

gferdon 02-18-2004 07:39 AM

Steve,

Tried a return PM but your mailbox is full. One on Sat. works for me, let's talk on Fri. and firm up the time and directions. Trying to ruin the kids at an early age?
Thanks for the invite, think Gregg would be interested?

G-

nolimits 02-18-2004 09:41 AM

Gary,

PM fixed... sent you and Greg a message..

Boys have a 16' Dauntless (Boston Whaler) and drive flat out, which is 46 MPH or so.... They are already ruined....:D

nolimits 02-18-2004 08:45 PM

Heads up.

- Just got oiff the phone with Ron (SuperBoat) who will call AJ (Formula 353) and Anthony (Sonic 26 ). Most are bringing their other halves and all are stoked for Saturday at 7:00 PM. I am bringing Duncan (24 Baja Outlaw). When we stop by the shop on Sat. we may pick up more. We can also stop by MRD who's shop is also very impressive - just to look...

I think we should have a tide table for the meeting and maybe a few charts to spread out so Gary can show all of us what he has already worked out on his PC. Should be fun. Greg is this back room big enough??? ANd where are you??? Don;t tell me I am going to have to start calling the house??

I am going to start calling THe Casino at Davis. Maybe there is a recording.....

:p

FastFountain35 02-18-2004 09:12 PM

steve if we cant get the room he will acomadate us. dont worry it will be cool.:D :D :D

nolimits 02-18-2004 09:15 PM

FastFountain 35
Greg,

Great... Your message box is full. You can;t recieve any new PM's until you clean some of the old ones out..

gferdon 02-19-2004 07:42 AM

Just PM'd Steve and told him that work issues will prevent me from making the meet on Sat. With that in mind, does anyone have "Mapsource" software for Garmin GPS's on a notebook? If so, let me know and I will send the files for download. It is all pretty simple...start at the Connetquot river and run inside to Moriches inlet then outside to Fire Island inlet and back east to Atlantique (Fire Island). Second route was basically the same except to run further east to Shinnecock inlet and outside westbound to FI inlet. Moriches run is 64.0 statute miles, Shinnecock is 96.1 miles with a considerable nowake zone thru the Hamptons and possible fuel stop at the Shinnecock prior to making the ocean run. Both of these routes can be run in reverse (inside) if the weather is not cooperative.
The nice part is the software shows tides and depths as well as the actual route. Let me know and, again, I am sorry I won't be able to make it.

Gary

nolimits 02-20-2004 06:06 AM

Gary,

I don't have the software, but will bring pre-marked charts to the meetng to illustrate the routes. Can't really email the route that way, but larger and easier for more people to see. I will have tide info as well. Once the route is nailed down, perhaps I can give you the charts and you can enter the route into Maptech. Assuming that is, that the route had changed. Then the route can be emailed to the Finger Lake boys and anyone else who does have maptech.

We also need to assign the following open issues to willing participants.

1) write up and create maps for directions to and from Long Island/ Hechsher State Park boat ramp.

2) Hotel for out-of-towners - Check variuos local hotels for parking, availability of rooms for 5/15/04, get rates and phone numbers.

3) Resturant for Lunch. Call various rest. to find someone open along the route. Slips that can accomodate us is as important as menu... More...

4) Inform and provide accurate route info to those not in attendance. Answer on going questions as they pertain to the route over the next 11 weeks.

The agends for the meeting is as follows:

1) Have a good time
2) Nail the route down - with backup route
3) List fuel, repair and emergency stops - phone numbers of sea-tow etc.
4) Assign open items (above) to people - Make it known who those people are.
5) Nail the time table - we start when, have lunch when etc.
6) T-shirts??? Pictures??? Other ideas....

Thats all I can think of right now....

Steve

nolimits 02-21-2004 10:21 PM

We had a heck of a great meeting. Many people, lot's of great stories. Will update all with resulting onfo sometime Sunday.... WHAT a BLAST!!

nolimits 02-22-2004 05:53 PM

Ok Here we go..

Our Route meeting started as planned and went without a hitch. I can only tell you based upon the people there, this FunRun may be the best kick off to summer in recent years.

We had 20 people show representing 8 boats and 21 people. 4 other boats and 14 other people have signed up locally. Clearly Gary is in as well. We now total 13 boats and 35 people.
In order to handle resturant and docking issues, we need to once again hear from the rest of you. Remember this is for the 15 of May (16 is the rain date), which IS NOT that far away (less than 12 weekends away!!). So please sound off and PM me with your contact info, Name, phone number, # of boats and # of people. Also tell me if you would want a t-shirt and if so, # and sizes of shirts.

Here's the route ino:
1) We will meet at the entrance to the Connetquot river at 8:30 AM.
2) Head east to Shinecock.
3) Stop at one of two resturants (TBD by Greg FastFountain35) for lunch.
4) Take stock of Ocean conditions, make decision to either head offshore or reverse earlier route.
- If we go Offshore, we will return to the Great South Bay via Democrat Point, head past Fire Island and return to the Hechsher area.
At that point we might choose to stop at Fire Island or wrap it up. Maybe dinner at Tequila Jacks??? How about Flynn's?

Seatow phone numbers/Hotels/Fuel stops etc. will be provided by me in the near future.

Directions for the Finger Lake boyz and other out of towners will also be provided. I am hoping Gary picks this up, but rest assured it will be done.

The Drivers meeting has been set for May 14th at 7:30 at the Sonoma Grill. The owner Ed provided great service and the food was nothing short of excellant. We were treated very very well. Thank's Greg and thanks Ed......

gferdon 02-23-2004 05:16 PM

Sounds like all bases were covered and then some! I will take care of all overland directions and hotel recommendations. In addition, I will be at the launch site as early as possible to assist anyone who is trailering in. After launching and forming up, I will lead the gang around to the connetquot start point and we will all pick it up from there...sounds pretty good all around!

At the route meeting did anybody get a count with regard to who will be using Heckshire to launch vs. folks who will be arriving by water? I would like to get an idea of how many I will be coordinating and get cell numbers, etc.

I do have two questions/inquiries...Greg - parking for that many boats at the lunch stop and the terminus (Tequila's's / Flynn's) - possible fuel stop en-route (Shinnecock has two fueling areas just prior to entering the ocean run).

13 boats and counting...

FastFountain35 02-23-2004 08:02 PM

gary, i called and left you a mesage on sat. must have been busy. hope to talk with yoou soon. ps. working on lunch stop info, wiil post a definet destination within the next couple of days.

steve, had a blast ,talk to you soon.

FastFountain35 02-24-2004 02:36 PM

shoud we delite the word ( sound )out of the thread.

nolimits 02-24-2004 02:42 PM

I don't think you can.... Perhaps a new thread referencing this one.... Does it matter????

gferdon 02-24-2004 03:06 PM

Greg-

Had the same thought you did about the misleading name (at this point at least). I think a couple of people were a bit miffed at the venue change but I am still hoping that Tricky919 will pickup on the North Shore run at some point...we'll see. I tried to change the thread name just for grins but no luck...just changed the name of the first post and not the leader. I think Steve has it right...does it matter? I am pretty sure that everyone familiar with it knows the deal by now. Talk to you soon.

Gary

Tricky919 02-24-2004 07:28 PM

I was going to try to make the run but i will be in Myrtle Beach for bike week on the 15th. I hope we could all get together in the LI sound for a run to the city or something this summer.......

gferdon 02-24-2004 08:25 PM

I'm in, let's work on it when you have time.
