Just nailed down final numbers on hotel rates and recommendations. It is down to 2 locations; the Holiday Inn at the Long Island Mac Arthur airport and the Radisson in Holtsville, NY. Rates are both $109.00 thru a discount deal I get with a local business. This may not sound cheap but for this area it is a good deal...parking is ample for truck/trailer unless they are jammed full but it is still possible to park in back at both locations. There are some downscale hotels in the area but I cannot recommend them. Also, parking at these places is limited at best (you can, however, get a 3 hour rate!!). Anyone who is interested must let me know prior to arrival and I will make arrangements for the rate. It is possible that some of you could get a better rate if you are employees of a hotel chain or the like. If that is the case, please let me know.

The airport Holiday Inn is a bit closer to the launch area and the Radisson is very close to the Sonoma Grill where we will have the driver's meeting on Friday evening. In any case, the drive time to the ramp will be less than 15 minutes.

Regards,

G-

nolimits 03-11-2004 09:41 PM

Gary,
I think Carny has a buddy with a 29 Baha who makes pizza that's coming too.

If anyone wants to splash thier boat Friday, so they don't have to on Saturday can tie up at my house for the night. 10 minutes away from where we are all meeting by water. There are local ramps here too.

For everyone traveling, Gary's advice on the hotels is right on. I just got married last summer and had 50 people coming in from all over the country for the weekend. I came up with similar info on hotels locally. Especialy the 3 hour ones.

I bought a new digital camera and plan to takes lots of pictures of the run for the board. People need to know how cool it is to run boats down here. Damn are we going to have fun...:D

gferdon 03-12-2004 07:53 AM

Tripps,

I assume all your guys are coming from the Babylon area by water, yes? Looking forward to meeting you all.
Hard to believe we are down to 10 weeks!

Again folks, I am looking for a count on trailered participants.

GF

carney 03-22-2004 07:00 PM

Still waiting for another foot of snow to melt before we can even get close to our boat. Looks like the intrest is growing. Can you give me the address of the motels and the zip codes so I can run them on map quest.

Peconic 03-22-2004 09:20 PM

Hi, guys. Tripps sent me here. I don't have a Fountain, but I have a 29 Kryptonite. And I live 5 minutes from Oaklands. I'd be glad to run with you.

One piece of advice: If you want to do the run on the outside, do the outside part in the morning, and the inside part in the afternoon. Believe me, that's the way it works here. In the morning, the waters are usually calm, making the outside run a breeze. In the afternoon, wind kicks up ...

In the bay, you need to watch the tide a bit, low tide in Moriches Bay is at 3:48 on 5/15, so you want to be through before.

The nastiest parts of Shinnecock Bay have been freshly dredged.

PM for local advice.

gferdon 03-23-2004 10:55 AM

Carney:

I know what you mean about the snow and cold...things were just starting to loosen up around here and we got hit with that last (I hope) blast of winter. Anyway, to recap, Holiday Inn at the Long Island Mac Arthur airport and the Radisson in Holtsville, NY. Rates are both $109.00 thru a discount deal I get with a local business. Info follows:

Holiday Inn Long Island Mac Arthur Airport
3485 Veterans Memorial Highway
Ronkonkoma, NY 11779
631-585-9500

Raddison Long Island Mac Arthur Airport
1730 North Ocean Avenue
Holtsville, NY 11742
631-758-2900

Again, Raddison is closer to the driver's meeting and the Holiday Inn is closer to the Heckshire State Park launching ramp...your choice. I will try and take some pictures of the parking areas at both locations and post them for review. In addition, I am working on a better rate at the Holiday Inn but will not have that information for a bit. I will keep you all posted.

Please let me know how many boats you anticipate will be in your party and if you have any additional questions or need more details.

Regards,

Gary

That sounds like a good plan, even early in season we still get more slop on the south shore in the afternoon than morning. I think we can kick it around on the thread and make a final decision at the driver's meeting on the 14th. What do you all think? Thanks for the info Peconic...how is your Kriptonite set up...always interested! Hope to see you in May, if not sooner.

Gary

Peconic 03-23-2004 01:25 PM

Gary: HP525, XR shorty on ITS. The infamous "White Trash."

FastFountain35 03-23-2004 07:45 PM

gary will try to call you wensday been super busy sorry.

Peconic 03-23-2004 07:47 PM

Fire Island Inlet to Shinnecock Inlet is less than 50 miles.

So:

Early start, outside to Shinnecock, early lunch & gas at Oakland's. Leave Oakland's at 1pm and get back into GSB before the low tide at 4ish.

If the weather is iffy, do it all on the inside, but start an hour earlier, because the inside is slower (idle from WHB through Quogue.)

tripps 03-23-2004 10:35 PM

Peconic's the man!!!!!!!,I'll call wendsay Tripps

gferdon 03-24-2004 07:46 AM

Peconic,

Since you live at the midway point, where are you going to join the run? If at Heckshire, do you plan to tow in or make the run by water?

G-

Peconic 03-24-2004 08:16 AM

I'll make the run by water on Friday and tie up at Tripps' house if I'm still invited ... since I live close to Oaklands (15 minutes by car, 5 minutes by water ...) I can do some prep work there if there's need.

Don't we need a name for that run?

Long Island Sound Run might send them the wrong way ...

Suggestions?

Peconic 03-24-2004 08:27 AM

And for the Non-Loang Islanders - Hecksher State Park:

gferdon 03-24-2004 10:08 AM

Sorry, earlier in the thread we changed the name to the South Shore Thunderboat Blast...I tried but could not change the name of the thread. Greg Katz, FastFountain35, was taking care of the Oaklands prep and I believe he has already taken care of all the details. I am sure he will check in with you if need be, thank you for the offer, we need all the help we can get! A few more Kryptonites wouldn't hurt, ask around.

G-

nolimits 03-24-2004 12:02 PM

I am in on the run direction change.... Lets make sure everyone knoew what they need to know in order to get through Shinecock.... The water conditions are very much better for the reverse loop - I'm in. Of course you are still invited Peconic!! Welcome!!

The run name I thought was South Shore something blast - Gary named it in an earlier comment... Question is do we want T-shirts????

Steve

Peconic 03-24-2004 12:05 PM

Thunderboat Blast sounds great!

No, can't change topic titles on OSO!

I'll get you more Kryptonites, don't worry. I'll be over at the Kryptonite Naval Yard in the afternoon and will pass on the word.

Katapult 03-24-2004 01:02 PM

"The Kryptonite Naval Yard " Yea I love that :D

tripps 03-24-2004 02:30 PM

Told ya,peconic's the man!! he has very helpful puter assistance skills, good boat skills, lotsa friends,GREAT stories, especially the one about comander solo in the race in jersey i think, comeom peconic, post the link about that one, they really screwed you. And peconic,my door is always open,or should i say dock!! and nolimits lives around the corner from me. Supposed to be 60 saturday, what time you guys goin in?? Tripps

gferdon 03-24-2004 03:54 PM

If the forcast holds for Sat. I was thinking of uncovering, cleaning and possibly splashing for a quick one. My only concern is another blast of sub freezing temps, let you know. By the by, we owe the name change of the run to Greg - FastFountain35! Very appropriate!
