Candyman,
the difference on the staggereds and triples is they move the seat forward im guessing 2-4 inches. because of the 15-18 inches they lose when moving the rear bench forward. No i cannot strech my legs out but im also 6' 3". But it is very comfortable for me to sit in my boat. I believe that the newer tall decks have the front seats set back simular to my boat. I also want to clarify my above statemant in that i have side by side motors not frt seats, as some of the early 42's had side by side front seats. with side by side motors they set the rear seat back 15-18 inchs makes a huge difference in cockpit. If i had to do over i might order a staggered and give up the cockpit space, because my kids are grown and there is usually just me and the wife.

My boat is the '96 42 that Candyman spoke of.
The next time I get over to the boat I'll measure the
seat from say like the front of the cockpit(under the helm)to the front seat mount or bottom of helm to the
front of the seat's backrest.
If you could measure this space maybe we could compair.
I'll be heading up to Shogren Performance in a few weeks so I'll take my tape measure to compair the new
Executioner.
I've heard that the new 35Executioner has a closer front bolster also.
Maybe Candyman Dan could clarify this??
I like the staggs and have no problems to speak of as far as room in the cockpit.
I don't really think that the front bolsters have been moved forward on mine not to say that the new ones aren't.

strikenlightning, i thought candyman was refering to a newer style 42 with the tall deck. Although i thought i remembered the staggered and triples on the classic decks was closer then the side by sides. I will being see my boat this weekend and will take those measurment. I wasnt saying that there was no room in the staggered boats in the cockpit, i was refering to the side by side had alot of room excpecilly for a cooler and such. The executioner that i was in at the St Louis Boat show diffeniently had both frt seats sitting forward by several inch's, even the wife made the comment that the passager seat was forward, from our boat. If you would also measure the distance from the back of the frt seat to the frt of the seat bottom cushion. what power does your 96 have? and pictures.

I was referring to the new 42 Executioner as having the reduced leg room when standing. Sitting down it felt fine. I'm familiar with the different layouts between the side by side's and the staggards. The 42 with staggards has a cockpit almost identical to my 97 35'. I'm not sure if Fountain has changed that configuration with the introduction of the 35 Executioner. I hope to make it up to the dealer this weekend and will take measurements if the 42X is still there. I know the 42 lightning aka as the high deck is more comfortable while standing. I don't think the short windshield would do much in the way of blocking the wind and I still prefer the classic lines.

Dyno'd @ 588hp @5,600rpm
Boat runs an honest 82mph with 27 Q4 hydro's @5400rpm.
Going to xr's with 2" Sportmaster shorties and 5 blade hydro's.
Want to go to a mild blower setup when I tear it down
after the end of this season.

I believe mY '96 has the same profile as the X.
You're right the older ones had quite a bit flatter deck.

The 42 X is supposed to have the same deck as earlier 42's. The main difference is the bottom. I wonder If Fountain raised the hull sides some like they did on the 38's a few years ago to gain cabin space. The 42X's cabin seemed larger than when I was in StrikinLightnin's at the end of the summer. I know it's a huge difference from the 35'. I'll have to measure that also this weekend.
