Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Nolimits,
We will have a group of 3-4 boats minimum from the CT River... :p My friend with the 29' Fountain was over last night for a work-out, and I am sure it was written on his calender the minute he got home. I would suggest the CT river boats meet between the bridges in Old Saybrook. Any others coming from points west of the river could meet us at the Mouth. Don't you fret, the North will be well represented... :blaster: I know how you New Yorkers operate, I'm married to one. We'll see you after noon I'm sure... Hey Peconic, I'm working Stefan already. I'd like to get last year's crew together for a reunion tour... :eureka: |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Pat,
Now that I look :o woops I see you are from CT and duh :stupid: makes sense you'd be part of the Northern Fleet... Good thing you are aware of New Yorkers, but we will be there on time ( we're always concerned about parking ). :D :D Lets make you the skipper of the CT group, sounds like you knoow your way around... Just coordinate with Gferdon so you guys can arive together. Meet in the Sound somewhere etc. Makes for great pictures and stirs the blood that way!! Seems Pat has a handle on the CT group! :) Now what about the Westchester group and the rest of the North Shore of LI. You guys need to speak up and be heard. |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
No problem taking the lead for the central CT group.
That is if I can stay out in front anyway... :) I'll be coming down river from about 10miles north of the Sound. It takes us about 40min, dam no wake zones... I would think we'll want to be in the Sound and running hard by 11am to be at Claudio's and docked up by noon. When we get a bit closer we can firm up a plan. :) |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey,guys, maybe Zuperboat and myself will make it,but what's the matter with goin north around the north side oh that island? I've done it before!! all you need is to see red or green!!. Im up for that weekend of the 10th. And pat, that should take you 10 minutes to get across, since you have ported heads!!! Tripps

Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
I've only been in the Peconic once and not over by Shelter... So I have no opinion...
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey tripps,
It's only about 10 miles from the Saybrook light house to Plum gut so we probably can... :D |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Nolimits,
Take the short route first, then we'll all make a run around shelter before heading home. That'll shake things up a bit... :D |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Going 'round Shelter is a no-brainer. It's interesting, it's easy, it's fast, it's scenic.
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Tripps: How about you & I and whoever wants to come along do a little test run to map things out? Would you have time during the week? I'm coming back this weekend. Next weekend we'll be racing at the Great Lakes.
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Peconic what racing are you doing at the Great Lakes?
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Reread the LI Sound funrun thread in it's entirety. Looks like Tricky919 was the only respondent from the western sound area...Westchester I believe. Other than that, it was only myself from Port Jeff and the guys from the South Shore. That said, it looks like I will be joining the Babylon boys for this run since it is less fun to run solo from PJ to plum gut. Still like to hear from anyone in my area who is interested...we have six weeks. Hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Who said any thing about brains?? we got boats ,don't we?? just kidding,I've gone north once, its easy,i like getting to my destination early so i can fix something :D :D :D Tripps
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey tripps, Don't jinx yourself. The only thing we want to see you fixing is drinks. :drink:
What's this maybe zz and I can come??? One of your boats gotta be running! Between the two of you, you have 3 or 4, right? Hell, I know your back up boat is bigger than my only. You'll be there... :) |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Ok, Gentlemen, I'm back on station here in Quogue, LI.
I have uploaded two maps. http://www.wetpits.com/images/peconic.jpg is the route from Shinnecock Canal to Shelter. Pretty much a no-brainer. The only funky point can the the "South Race" South of Robin's Island, WPT 062 on the map. That tends to have odd currents, and one can get in trouble when trimmed all the way out ... and whoaaa! http://www.wetpits.com/images/roundshelt.jpg is the route round Shelter. You can take it either way ... Big files. For reference only, not for navigation, has not been checked this season. |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Is there a definite day yet? I need to fill in my calender.
- Vinnie |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Vinnie,
The date is July 10th with the rain date being July 11th. Some reasoning: That weekend is in between 4th of July and the 17th which is the Atlantic City Poker run. Sunday the 11th while it works better than Saturday for some is the busy day over at Claudio's. Combine the busy day with the fact that this weekend is Tall Ship weekend(tall ships in the slips = limited dock space), the target day becomes Saturday the 10th. Time: The arrival time really should be between 11 and 11:30. I am going to suggest that we all target 11 AM and spend time waiting for opening at 11:30 by talking, taking pictures etc. I understand that they get busy at 11:30 with boats. Earlier the better. Shooting for noon is a mistake...... Lastly, read the opening post for the most recent info. |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Sunday would be much better for me also but i guess we all have to live with the group made decision. Also ealrier is def better for dock space.
Steve how did your boat run? Do you like the 28? If you want to do any custom prop work just let me know ... maybe we should make your 26 a 27. I have your windshield molding but no seat motor or speedo yet. - Vinnie |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
The Sat. decission is out neccesity more than anything else. Besides the above posted reasons, remember to that if it rains on Sat. we still have Sun. If we schedule for Sun. and it rains we're done for..... I do know Sunday is easier for you though..... I really hope it works out.
Onto the Boat: The prob was solved, no more breakup at higher RPM's. Guess the bent fuel line was the prob. Nice find and fix. The speedo is NOW WORKING. No idea what happened, but it just started to work. ????? The 28 cruises better, slower out of the hole and slower mid range punch than the 26. I think it is the prop to be tuned though (26 hits 5400 rpm), and I think sending it out to Merc. is probably the thing to do. Let me know when the seat motor is in and we will schedule the "fix all" date.... Thanks for your help and the 10:30 pm boat delivery. What a guy!! Steve |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Saturday is a very good plan (for all the reasons above.)
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Great charts Peconic!
I have to check my GPS to see if the points are still in it from last year. My batteries died over the winter, so probably not... :( |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Steve,
What are you getting for WOT RPM with that prop and moderate load. You have to decide which prop to modify. You will get more from making the 28 a 27 than making the 26 a 27. I need to know WOT RPM and what RPM you would like to have for WOT. I also would like to know some cruise numbers with both props. RPM and speed chart. Glad to hear all is weel, and no problem witht he 10:30 delivery. A dedicated servicing dealer will do whatever it takes. - Vinnie |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Vinnie,
I am planning to have that info by tomarrow morning.... I'll call you with the facts.... The dealer's lead technician is clearly dedicated..... Steve |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Vinnie, This is Duncan...
Steve told me about your above and beyond the call of duty Service... 10:30pm from Hampton Bays to Babylon.... BRAVO!!!!! (Not as in Drive) What was the deal on replacing the mufflers with pipes ???? |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Yea Vinnie, they sound like Searays.....
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast

Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Lol
|
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
I apologize ... I haven't had the chance to follow up on my one phone call to fountain about that. I am leaving for vacation on Sunday and will be returning on the following Sunday (June 13). WHen I return I promise to follow up on the muffler replacement question. In the meantime you all have a great weekend and a busy week of work (lol) while I am in Lake George riding my motorcycle all week. (Keep in mind I work 50+ hours a week all year long and only get 1 week off a year, and this is it), so I am going to enjoy it.
- Vinnie |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Vinnie???
My seat motor??? Another week of my wife standing???!!!! Just drop the thing off along with the bushing kit, I'll do it!!!!! |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
I apologize ... If I had the motor I would be there regardless of time of day or night to do the job. Fountain still doesn't have it and it is expected mid next week. I could have someone ship it to you if it comes in while I am away if you would like. I really do sincerely apologize. I was going to call you to update you on the status today being that I couldn't go away leaving people hanging who are relying on me servicing there boats.
- Vinnie |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Vinnie,
Have a great vacation.. I believe that people work to have a life, Not have a life to work.... Be careful on that bike... Say hi to the people at Shoreline boats in Lake George.... Jenn + Denis... |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Vinnie,
I will call Fountain on Monday to inquire what happened to the stock they claimed they had trhee weeks ago. I know that you would appear here to do the work as you have clearly demonstrated that in the past. I appreciate your efforts, my concern is that I can't boat with the wife for more than an hour at a time. 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back. You can see my deliema. I understand Fountain will drop ship parts, or you could ship it. I would be happy to have the motor sent here, along with the required Bushing Kit. It's 30 minutes of work for me and remember, I took it out. So thanks for the offer and I'll see you for the rubber molding etc. when you return. Please enjoy your much needed and deserved vacation and above all else, be careful... Ride on ..... |

Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Steve,
I ran across a thread on the General Boating forum titled L.I Boating. It seems that there a quite a few guys from the Smithtown area that get together on a regular basis for both small and large runs. I suggested they join us and invited them to view the thread on the Fountain forum...I think we will get some takers and increase our numbers...let's see what shakes out. Still no luck with my Del Duano (sic?) quest...I will not give up, however! Sorry for the late call the other night. G- |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Folks, on Saturday, I went by boat to the Raritan River in NJ for some race boat testing. Today, I went back, and went to Claudio's for a Burger.
Yesterday, I did the whole Shinnecock Inlet - Raritan River run on the Outside. Beautiful. Today, I attempted to do the same back. But it got too bumpy and I decided to duck into the Fire Island Inlet and do the run on the Inside. Smooth all the way. Claudio's was packed. |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey Peconic,
Putting lots of hours on her... The weather is finally cooperating. :) Tuesday nights have now been reserved for boating. I can be on the water by 4:30pm and be at Claudio's by 6pm. So if your free some Tuesday night, let me know. I owe you a round or two... |
Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Sure! I might come over and get you. I'll PM my phone #.

Re: Mid Summer's Peconic Boat Blast
Hey guys.... Glad to see some action on the thread. Gary, thanks for the outreach on the General Boating Page. Welcome anyone following the thread.
A note of thanks to Mariners Cove Marina owner Ron and his front man Vinnie. Dragonfire and I decided to take a run east this past Sunday. We left Babylon at 9:30 and landed in Sinnecock Bay at 11:15 or so. We tied up at Mariner's Cove and at Ron's invitation, Vinnie drove us (over land) to a local resturaunt. We had a lunch that just couldn't be beat with Vinnie picking us up and back to the Marina. While we were gone, Vinnie performed some needed factory service... All without an appointment!! I was most impressed and want the folks out here to know what kind of service this Marina does. Damn good and thanks!! Peconic, are you doing the NYC Poker run?? Should have tried to hook up with you this past weekend as we were out your way. I owe you a call... later thos week... |
