Boxes on 35s or 32s
Hey I posted this in the general T&A...........I mean Q&A, but rec'd little response.
Anybody running extension boxes on non-stepped 35 Fountains?
My old 1984 Excalibur 31 has the same bottom as the early 10 meter Executioners (notch and pad).
I converting my TRS drive boat over to Bravos (filling the transom holes).
The TRS drives were very deep to begin with. Leaving the engines at the same height will move my prop height up 2.5 inches. My 'X" dimension is 18.25" X 34.5". 18.25 is measured from the v portion directly in front of the prop, not the notch.
I am considering adding extension boxes (later). I realize that using a neutral box will lower my prop height back down 1 inch (deeper).
Two things I would like to improve, by adding the boxes; planing and leveraging of the bow. With the TRS (running 3 blade mirage) the boat was slow to plane and it would pin the bow at speed.
Who's added them? Where was your "X'" dimension? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

There is a guy in KS that has a 32 named pocket rocket. He has boxes on it, and runs in the 97mph range. I think he is on the board, but cant remember his name.

Anybody?
Has anybody installed boxes on a non-stepped 32 or 35?
Come on somebody has to have done it and wants to talk about the change it made!
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Boxes on 35s or 32s
I'm not going to be cutting the holes in my new transom until my boat comes out of storage in the spring.
Still looking for any feedback.......please.

Hey Zanie, you haven't started the work on you boat yet? As I think I told you I'm doing the same conversion on my 29. I talked to you about your old TRS's then changed my mind for the Bravos.
I'm mounting XR's and I plan on starting with Stelling box's. I've done a fair share of research and the general consensus is to raise the X by 2". I'll keep you posted on the progress. I'll start a thread here soon. I'm leaving the engines forward and will just lengthen the shafts from the box's. I would rather move the motors back but I just put new headers on and I don't want to go through that expense again.

Re: Boxes on 35s or 32s
Oh I've been working on it!
It's been slow going.
I didn't start on the transom core and outer stringer replacement until mid September, and it's been kicking my butt!
Undoing the crappy work that the "specialist" did for me was an unbelievabl task. This job would have been so much easier if I would have just did it myself in the first place.
I'm going to put together a post in the Q&A section with a bunch of photos, sooner or later.
Bryan, does this look familiar? You can't see it , but every single hole in the transom has a drywall screw and a big washer pulling the new wood to the transom.

Re: Boxes on 35s or 32s
Hey Lofty,
Leaving the engines at the same height ("X" dimension) will move the props up 2.5 inches.
The TRS is 2.5 inches longer than the bravo.
The TRS boats had the props pretty deep because the 4 blade bravo prop technology wasn't around.
So that actually works out nicel (if you run a 4 blade).
Here's an inside shot of my transom.
Much work left to do!
