ALEXANDRIA -- A police officer is on administrative leave after a deadly shooting early Saturday.

Alexandria police say around 3:40 a.m. an employee at the International House of Pancakes restaurant on Duke Street told an off-duty officer on security detail that a group had left without paying.

The officer went to the parking lot and saw them get into a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

He apparently tried to stop the vehicle, but it continued moving toward him.

That's when police say he shot at the car.

A man sitting in the back seat was killed.

He has been identified as 18-year-old Aaron Brown of Springfield.

The case is under investigation.

Yep, sorry for the loss, but a cop is not going to shoot at a vechicle unless it is trying to run him over, as it sounds like here. Kid in the back was not driving, but should have chosen better friends.

I`m very sorry for your loss, no matter what the circumstances were. It`s times like this that we, as a group should come together and offer support to each other, not pass judgement. I too am sorry for the members here that can`t grasp that concept.

There is NOTHING inside of a ihop worth a life. Period! Do NOT step in front of a moving vehicle and do NOT fire at a moving car. It is no different than catching a kid in your car in the middle of the nite stealing your cd player. Yes I want to beat the chit out of them but I do not want to kill them. Someone losing their son, grandson, brother or nephew is not worth a $200 deck or a waffle breakfast.

Well....I have a different opinion of all this....... you never know what happened till ya get the report....so do not be so quick to judge......maybe somebody was hanging a gun out the window.....kind of weird the cop pops a shot.....cop could be a wack job......you know I have no love for the police....but then we have the stealing of the service..........live by the sword......die by the sword...and yes it is a shame he got shot...
