I am not old enough to look at the pictures, but I do remember something that may pertain to these motors, maybe not-

Bob Kaiser (Systems boat) worked with GM on a hi-tech marine engine. If I remember correctly, it was 3?? cubic inches and was turboed. The heads and block had seperate cooling sytems- They built a few prototypes and had problems because they used a prototype Vette ECM that had a flaw in the mapping which caused a lean condition. I think one block cracked through a main bearing bulkhead. There was an article about this about 6 years ago, I don't know if kept the magazine.

Sharkey you may try KE as he was probably fairly familiar with the engines as he played in that sand box many years and normally has a pretty good handle on what is going on with competitive offerings.

Being a newbie to OSO, but an old timer to performance boating I figure I would respond here......

Those motors, from my recollection, were 357 cubic inch De-Stroked Donovans, dry sump, pontiac heads, twin turbos, kinler fuel injection Bruce Falls/Mclaren creations......I dont know too much of the history of where/how and when but, I do know when they were running, nothing would touch them, .....I think issues they had were in the fuel management system and programming and such....

That was then, this is now.......if those who own these packages decided further develope those gems eg: newest, up to date electronics ect......turbo technology has grown leaps and bounds since 1996 (I believe the origin date of this motors).......man o man, what a killer endurance motor...with 1200 to 1400 hp without a sweat!!!

And if rigged in a competitive hull!!! If I were some of the big boys, I would be worried.....

Love this site!!

I agree with Husker. I talked to Gifford a couple times some years back about purchasing the CUV. These are the motors that he was trying to sell with the package including the semi to pull it. 357CU.In. Donovans, turboed, etc. He would be a guy to contact for more info.

Lufthansa!!!??? is that where Jimmy and Henry hide those engines, after the big heist?...Seriously, thoses are some sweet pieces, if it was an injection issue that kept them from being reliable, it seems with a F.A.S.T. or Motech ECM and some dyno time you should be able to work out the bugs. Good luck
