I think eddie marine design allows for more mis alignment of the drives without stress on the end. That was why I opted for that design, just seems to be a beefier bar all in all. i had a Formula 242SR-1 with twins & alpha drives. It had a tie bar, and yes the drive were not counter-rotating. at the time, Merc did not offer counter-rotating alphas.
