So for those to say that the Reggie has beat a "Cat hull" Is a far cry. thats apples to oranges. For the record Speed was turned all the way down.. We were only making 6 psi on starboard motor and 8psi on port. Im sure we can pulley the boat up and put the big props on.. we were just out having a good time with the little props. We were on the bump boxes. Thats what trashed our belt. Speed has alot left in her... Far more then most people would ever want to go with an open canopy. We have had it alot faster then in those pics.
I GOTTA KNOW HOW THEY GOT THAT BOAT TO 4700 LBS THATS A FULL 4000 LBS LESS THAN A COMPARABLY FUELED 42 FOUNTAIN SUPER V WITH BRAVO DRIVES-- DO TELL. |

WELL SAID. Marketing is marketing for sales....period. We all dispute each other fighting about cats vs. V's and Cigarette vs. OL vs. Fountain, etc..... One thing is for sure, love or hate Reggie Fountain, he does do alot for our sport. I think some of the arguments we have here are pointless. It really doesn't matter if you have a 25' boat or a 47' hot rod, we all enjoy the sport alike. One thing I love about this site is the comroderie and the help if from other OSO'ers. :D |
Re: Cat Killer !
I Agree, And If It Were Not For Other Boat Manufacturers Raising The Bar In Terms Of Quality And Product, The Sport Would Not Continue To Excel. It Takes Professionals Like Reggie And Robertson, Etc. To Give Us The Research And Dev. But Also Pros That Are Greatly Respected Like John Tomlinson To Say That It Was Time To Back Off During A Kilo Run Because Safety Came First. I Hope All Weekend Warriors, Including Myself, Take Note Of This And Know When The Conditions, The Boat, Your Surroundings, Or Even Just Your Experience Behind The Wheel Are Not Up For The Task To Make A Poor Decision. I Have Not Missed The Loto Shootout For Years Because It Is Truly A Spectacle To See All The Manufacturers In A Wonderfully-ran Event Competing For Honors When Only The Gun Will Tell The Truth.

Re: Cat Killer !
I love this thread! I have no love for Reggie or Fountain (a different story for another time) I dont believe what they did at a poker run was right with the way they were running the boat . I will not get involved in the "he said this and he said that" part of the disscussion but what I laugh at is the number of you that are *****ing about your insurance rates going up because of an article. I would think that if you bought a $100,000+ boat you can reach in your pocket and pull out $900- $1500 or what ever the rate a year is for your boat each year. Its like my Grandfather always said if you can afford the toy you can afford everything that goes with it. I proudly pay my premium each year even if it goes up because it is a cheap price to pay for piece of mind.

Well one thing's for sure. They certainly succeeded in generating a lot of press!!! Congratulations.
I've been on more Poker Runs than I can remember. There always have been and always will be some guys trying to prove something and do whatever it takes to be the first to the stop. They'll brag about it the night before and thereafter if they succeed. Like it or not that's what brings some to the run. Usually though after a week or so few will remember or really care for that matter. Now we have this press release. Was that boat extremely fast? Absolutely! The problem is that IT WASN'T A RACE!!!! If it was I certainly wasn't informed. How about anybody else? Were the boats that wanted to race allowed to line up together and given a fair start? Were they told that if they were the first to the stop they would get a front page press release? Were there safety measures in place? NO! Why not? BECAUSE THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A RACE! Why do you think they stopped promoting it in NYC? Great boat but this type of promotion seems inappropriate. |

The muscle car era was doomed mainly because of gas shortages/prices and EPA emissions, not insurance. |

I guess you missed the Vette/GTO/Mustang, and the Dodge Hemis. Muscle cars have been back for a while, and they are quicker/faster than anything that Detroit made in the 60's/70's :D |

I think you are right it is the small things that happen all the time that drive up our rates. Just look at how much drives, paint jobs, props all cost to replace. A small claim to one of our boats is gonna be $5000. To the insurance co its dollars and cents. You back a #6 drive boat into a dock hard and there goes 20,000 Hit the same dock with a Sea Ray Whats the going rate for an alpha drives these days do the math. :snide: |

To try and make this thread a bit more positive, :drink: Why is it that Cat insurance is so high, or hard to get? Seems that the vast majority of boats are "V", and the big accidents we hear about are in "V"'s. But unless the big V owners are very quiet, its the Cat guys that seem to have the most problems with insurance. |

Probably why my rates went down a LOT when I went from 1% to 2% deductable.

Re: Cat Killer !
The cat's are much easier to drive, around the docks or out running hard. And these incidentals you all are worried about don't apply to most of the larger cats. Most of the guys I know have a 5% deductible, on a $400K boat(being conservative) that $20K. It takes a pretty big issue to run over that, and if it is only slightly higher, most guys are going to pay the extra as well. If not your insurance will go up more than the difference, If you can still get insurance. Which is the real concern for many. :(

Thats my question is why cats can't get insurance. I remember the turbine cat in Maryland and I'm sure there were lots of lawsuits, but that is the only major Cat accident I remember seeing. |

These rates are going to be high because if you a boat capable of these speeds it is probably a pretty expensive boat(ie: liability). Also there is more of chance of problems running these speeds and when that happens it is usually a worst accident. Again higher liability and more payout for the insurance. It all boils down to potential risk and dollars in VS. dollars in. Just my .02.
Plus, you are probably right. The insurance guys have fear that if a Cat wreaks, its going to be very expensive. |
Re: Cat Killer !
I Talked With My Insurance Guy Last Week And He Stated It Is All The Rule Of Probability And $. Meaning, The Excessive Speeds Over 100 Mph Have A Larger Probability Of More Excessive Danger Ending Up In More $ Of Damage Or Liability. The Old Rule Was Horsepower To Weight Ratio For The Majority Of The Risk Factor. Now Boats Are Lighter And Faster With More Risk Even Yet. An Insurance Company's Claims Due Factor In On Their Rates For Premiums As Does All Other Insurance Lines.
|
Re: Cat Killer !
Reggie going fast or anyone going fast in a Poker Run does not raise the rates of insurance. Heck with the way you all on here are thinking (offshore drillin') you should be pizzed at every boat test magazine and even this very own website for publishing the speeds of boats.
Come on people I know some of you are not that stupid. :D |
