Check out the 36 Outlaw. Ive been in those boats in rough and smooth waters. It feels as good as either of them and looks better too! It's like you taken three sport bikes around a race track, keep in mind you have never raced, a good rider will put them within a second or two every lap. :drink:

I too wish they made the 38 AVS Scarab still. An awesome all-around boat. Had (still has) killer lines and a helm second to none, my only dislike was a relatively small interior due to its low profile, but that's no biggie :D

Formula has that new line of small bowriders/wakeboard boats..perhaps they may not be hand-laid????

When I was shopping I extensively rode both.
The TS TG is a far better riding / handling boat than the 382.
Creature comforts - 382
Resale - Cig
Looks/attention - Cig

In fact, I rode both the 35 Formula and the 38 back to back. I (and much of the HRPA) thought the 353 actually had a better ride than the 382. (This was at Miami show - out in the ocean 2 to 3 footers) Also rode a TS TG there - again no comparison.

The ride of the 35 and 38 doesn't suprise me.....I had a 312 and wanted a 353 bad. Spent alot of time on them while shopping. I realized the 353 is just a longer version of the 312 which cuts to a sharp point of entry (kinda like a 42 Sonic or 42 Tiger). The 382 is a much wider, fattened boat. Walking the deck of the 382 feels like the bow section comes to a square in comparison. This gives it MUCH more room inside and helps account for a 2,000 lbs difference in the 2. The 353 is more of the sports car while the 382 is more like the Excursion. (I still love my 382!!!)

Come on now..What have you been smoking for breakfast? The 36 baja is a good riding boat, but not even close to a TS Topgun. And the Baja is 8-10mph slower.

That's a real good way to put it.

The cover girl cabin is the one with two equal looking beds or couches on each side of the rear of the cabin and beyond a bulkhead (with an oval cut out) is a forward bed that has a zippered fabric access and Cig. logo on it to the front of the bow. It does not have a table and the full cabin does.

There were only a few Twin Steps built with full cabins. The twin step hull runs VERY "flat" on the water. The full cabin on the Cigs is very heavy (and one of the best full cabins of any performance boat in my opinion). The added weight to the front brought the bow down. So they killed two birds with one stone. Lightened up the overall weight and made the boat run better.

Also, don't get the twin step Cig's and the single step Cig's confused. Two completely different boats. I believe there were only 5-6 single stepped Cigs built. Needless to say, as Jassman pointed out, the single step Cigs did not perform to expectations. The twin step was born. Chet Huffman and Rob Shin were the lucky two first owners of the T/S hulls. Rob also owned a single step.

Also, on the Formula one thing to consider is that the trim rail on top of the windshield is directly at your eye level and blocks your vision. I am 6 foot so it really bothered me. If you are shorter then you can look thru the winshield. Taller, well then wind in your face all the time.

For me I came out of a 312 fastech and I was looking for a better ride. Like I said earlier I rode in both and thier is no comparison. I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to test ride these boats.

39 Outerlimits- Great looks, great ride, super fast with any power, best cockpit hands down, great interior, not the best rigging, some small stress cracks, depreciates very fast.

38 Cig Top Gun- Great Ride, Great Looks, Great Rigging, roomy cabin but not really cozy and plush. Best Resale Value

38 Beak Boat- Great value and super fast. Best boat for the money. ( 42 Fountain is close in ride quality to a 38 TG. Remember that the 38 TG is a true 37' 6" long. Most boats are overstated in true length )

Nortech- never had a ride but here good things.

382 Fastech- production boat like Fountain very well made but very over priced. Not the best riding boat. Lots of storage room and very comfy. If you go this way look at used otherwise the Formula finacing deals will have you upsidown on the payments.

This is just my 2 cents.
