Chippin it is definitely for real .... He and his partner are tearin it up in OPA. Those boys run hard, play hard and work hard ... love watchin them run

Tx has alot of experience and knowledge for sure. However, he also seems to have a lot of bitterness towards offshore racing. I hope that the current generation of racers have more constructive things to say when they have been around as long as Tx ... negative is negative ... doesnt matter who you are :bunny:

Sorry, RG -- you know I love ya, but you can be the fastest, you can be the richest, you can be the smartest or even the BEST at something... But if you are a D!CK to the people that came before you, you are just the fastest d!ck, the richest d!ck, or the smartest d!ck. You're still a d!ck. X-Rated - I think she said it pretty well, and summed it up pretty well.
I'm not interested in joining the squeirmish, and have no intention of it. I'll sit on the sideline, just like I do at the races, and let them go at it. I don't want to take anything away from either T2x or Chippin.
T2x is from a different era - things were different then, it was a great time, the races now are different - it's not the same, but it's all we've got. I like that Chippin' is running in it.
It's not the same kind of racing, but, I'll take what I can get these days. But, it's not like the old days.
T2x - How many man-power did you need to run that first boat?? And what pitch were the oars???:D
And, yes, it's funny that the originator of this discussion has not responded.

Got it.........

Now that we've cleared that up......good luck to you and your brother...and while you're at it pass on my regards to Rifice.

Please, let's all resume our normal lives...except for those who would like to continue complementing me......:D

I do agree with Racegirl.......Times have, indeed, changed. My era was about keeping quiet and proving it on the race course.......with an occasional wild party thrown in for good measure.

Today it seems to be more about what you're gonna do, coulda done, how drunk you got, or who you'd like to be....... shouted at the top of your lungs. Believe me when this stops and a real focus on a simple competition model emerges...I'll be the loudest cheerleader. My quotes like "The Magic throttle arm of Bobby Saccenti" voiced over hundreds of races with real competition..... came from a lifelong passion...not a couple of years and a flash in the pan. That passion stll burns brightly.... but all I can think of when I watch today's racing are things like "The lonely throttle job of the only boat in the class."

My criticism of today's racing comes from the numbers..... fewer races, more race organizations, lack of technological innovation, too many classes with smaller fleets and lower purses..... coupled with too much chest thumping. If anybody thinks that makes today's racers smarter or more positive than me...... God Bless you.

Funny how an obsolete, ancient, over the hill old cantankerous TV commentator like Rich can stir up so much emotion on a forum that serves the performance boating community. Obviously a subject that the rotten old fart has no knowledge of what so ever. The guy thinks he knows so much about race boats its sickening.

Rich, go back to redoing the Ark and leave all the real race boat guys alone you stinkypants, archaic fossil from a time that even time forgot. If you insist on continuing to belittle all the racers, I will be forced to send the Quebec Army to your home and then you're gonna get it.

:) chuckle.

Yeah, but back then a "wild party" involved girls lifting their hoop skirts just high enough to show some calf.:D

Shane 05-03-2007 09:26 AM

RG3,

You may want to go back and read about the recent history of APBA. Our very own T2x was on the board not too long ago, trying to turn things around. Unfortunately, he is not the type to throw a temper tantrum and stomp his feet and cry until he gets what he wants. He prefers to allow his actions, successes and abilities do his talking for him. He is a leader in the truest sense. He doesn't cave in to going along with the popular notion du jour. He doesn't go along with someone else's thought process because it is "the" thing to do (unless it is his better half's, then he has NO CHOICE), he stands up for what he believes in, and until you have walked a mile in his shoes, (or swam a mile in his trunks....eeeewwwwwwwww) you may want to re-consider.

Shane .... I would not and have never discounted what Tx has done .. or who he is ... but he does have a habit of belittling todays racers and todays race series (see post 113). I totally agree with him that there are issues, however, constantly pointing out the issues and never offering suggestions on how to make it better really doesnt help anything does it? I think alot of the chest thumping posts are funny as hell ... but I know the guys and I know that its all tongue in cheek. They are highly competitive, just like the racers of yester year were (and probably still are). My point is ... Im betting that things back in the day weren't perfect either .... it is what it is .... and Im enjoyin it ... just like Im sure Tx enjoyed it back in the day too. Im sorry he doesnt continue to enjoy the races ..... we cant change that ... but there are alot of racers/fans that are already enjoying this race season with OSS and SBI and alot of us that are countin down the days til June 1  Come on Summer!!!!! :drink:

Racegirl.....

Who is Tx?...poor guy must be old:D

To your point I have offered in print on this website...literally miles of suggestions...and predictions....While the predictions come true..... both are ignored.....yet I continue to suggest...and predict.

As to the suggestions.... and they have been consistent.

1. Deal in facts...not fan fare. Overhyping the sport and its participants destroys its credibility... Understand that constructive criticism is a good thing and not "negativity", while unconstructive blind optimism is a bad thing and not "possitivity".
2. Look at the current classes with a critical eye......like a spectator with no experience.... you will find that they are too confusing to excite the average joe to come back. There needs to be a single main event feature class that the world, not the racer, can comprehend.
3. Admit that no group has a clue how to televise or even how to get a television contract. Understand that television is the only vehicle you have to create sponsor value.
4. Unify....or die. OPA, OSS, OCS, APBA, SBI, UIM, WTF?
5. Work on a simple plan to attract sponsors, keep race sites, and grow the sport. If the numbers continue to fall, get new leadership.
6. Admit that racers make lousy race promoters, and new racers make lousy (and inexperienced) race promotors.
7. Realise that government by committee yields mediocrity.
8. Understand that the guy with the biggest wallet, bar tab, and mouth is not neccessarily a good leader, nor does he have anyone's interest but his own in mind.
9. Find a real, experienced leader with no private agenda beyond the success of the sport, give him authority, a set of deadlines and a budget to work with......Let him choose his team......Senor David comes to mind each time I bring this up.:D
10. Keep the faith....... you're on a downward curve..fuel prices are soaring.... recreation/boating stocks and budgets are down...so things are likely to worsen before the sun comes out.

Just my tired ol' 2 cents.

T2x

T2x

I know that's a fact. I tried to follow the racing for a couple years when most were running in Apba, even they it was hard to figure out who was racing who. When they went to the alphabet soup program of racing organizations, I gave up trying to follow it at all. It seems everyone wants a class just to suit their own boat.

you think we have it bad...you should see the mongolian cluster f#*k the blowboaters have devised..not only do they a bunch of classes, but inside each class every boat has a rating..so is he in my class?? do we owe him 3 seconds a mile or does he owe us 12?? its enough to make someone want to get drunk and buy a power boat (which I did)
