Ok dumb question why would it matter if it floats?

I buy floating dock lines, that way I don't accidentally get one in my prop when at the dock.

I wash mine all the time. Just toss them in the washer and go. If they smell I add bleach. When done I either put them outside to dry, if the weather's nice, or in the dryer.
