What does it take to remove and replace 502's?

We pulled an engine without pulling the drive once....someone forgot the drive lock
Once the motor is "free" you have to pull the engine forward so the spline comes out of the coupler......obviously you need room in the engine compartment and this would be impossible in some boats.
