They use a water muffler to quite it down and I would guess there is not much overlap on the diesel cams so reversion is not a concern (or should not be a concern on a properly installation) Imagine a "P Trap"

A 1000hp V8 diesel won't last 30 hours in a high performance boat, much less 300. Inlines are the way to go;
