That article was designed to be inflammatory the well is being destroyed from the bottom non-nuclear by BP in spite of how I feel about them (never did like that company) They are better equipted than the navy to do this.

Clinton left out the part about a well having to be drilled next to the damaged well and a nuke put down 10,000 or so feet below the sea floor sealed with Concrete then detonated ,there is no guarantee with this,Best choice here is let the Bottom Kill from the two relief wells do its job.

Interesting real story from June 25th on this huge tanker. This ship was just built, and this would be a trial mission. Sort of different than stories that came out recently.

Can a whale swallow the gulf oil spill?
An 1,100-foot long converted super tanker will be in Norfolk today to demonstrate its capacity to skim as much as 500,000 barrels of oily water per day. Then it will head down to the Gulf of Mexico to offer its services to those companies participating in the clean-up from the massive oil spill.
Matt Strader, a spokesman for Secretary of Transportation Sean T. Connaughton said Norfolk International Terminals was chosen because it is one of the few terminals on the East Coast that can handle an 1,100-foot-long ship.
In addition, the owner of the skimmer, TMT Shipping, has a longstanding relationship with Connaughton, a former U.S. Maritime Administrator, Strader said.
Dubbed “A Whale,“ the ship was built in South Korea earlier this year, then retrofitted in Portugal. Two other skimmers, to be dubbed “B Whale” and “C Whale,“ are under construction, said Frank Maisano, a spokesman for TMT.
He said that TMT thinks not enough attention in the oil cleanup has been focused on removing the oil slick before it reaches the shore.
In addition to Connaughton, federal and state officials, the Coast Guard and industry and government representatives will be on hand for the presentation.
The company can’t begin cleaning up immediately, because it doesn’t yet have a contract to do so, Maisano said.
“TMT has made a significant capital investment in hopes of contributing to the Gulf cleanup effort, but engagement from those handling the cleanup must occur immediately to bring this innovative solution into action,“ he said.
He said A Whale has 250 times the skimming capacity of most fishing vessels engaged in the cleanup.

The problem with the whale or any ships like it is the discharge water, the EPA has to bend on this.

I tend to agree with you Steve, definitely.

What I was addressing was the alarmists (partisan attackers), that had no idea this ship was just built, and recently arrived in VA looking for work. A slightly different reality.

I must say, the people left in this country that have the stomach to do any sort of public service anymore deserve a huge round of applause. Alas, many of them are also part of the problem. You have to have a special kind of body armor nowadays to care anymore.

I doubt very seriously if that will happen. It's never been tried in the ocean.
