Outerlimits Adding 28- and 36-footers

Kind of a different direction for Outerlimits, http://www.boats.com/boat-content/20...nd-36-footers/.

Yes, I am excited to see how both come out.

Might we see another builder get into SVL with the 28 footer?

Great news!

Cool Nice Read Matt!

Matt Trulio 06-24-2010 12:59 PM

Sorry about the mistake in the subject line, "26" should read "28."

Speed Girl ... help!. I can't change it.

Big Time 06-24-2010 01:19 PM

I would love to see what the 36 could do with a pair of 525's (and the 28 with single 525). I think a 36 with a pair of 525's would be a nice package.

Smitty 06-24-2010 01:27 PM

I would definitely consider it if they built a 36 footer.

ck54 06-26-2010 07:21 AM

Any plans for a CC versions?

AB From Windsor 06-26-2010 08:21 AM

It's nice to see that in this poor economy that OL is looking at making a 28 & 36 ft. boat. I think that is a wise choice to make something that is more affordable for those who can't afford the big high dollar boats.

freshwaterfiend 06-26-2010 08:45 AM

They're hoping for 100mph on the twin 525 36 footer. Talked to them about both boats at Miami.

Catmando 06-26-2010 12:25 PM

Cigarette couldn't sell their 30' even before the economy went sour. Maybe OL buyers are not so picky...

phragle 06-26-2010 01:09 PM

With lifting hooks, I could see a few becoming yacht tenders for the rich and famous and the center console question, I have always been under the impression that if you want it and are willing to pay for it, they will make you just about anything....

Cig built and sold a lot of 28 and 31 foot boats in the past, but when you build them and try and charge the same as a 35 or even close to a 38 it doesn't work. They even sold quite a few 20's. And they were not built like the 38's back then, at least the couple I have seen.

If done to a production boat standard they should sell, heck where else you going to go today and get a 28 - 32 offshore boat. plus when the market does turn they at least have the option.

There are so few builders with entry level models anymore the sport is killing itself, JMHO, YMMV

Not disagreeing with anything you said, but there is Kryptonite, Activator, Superboat, Progression, Tuff, Joker, Phantom, Laveycraft just to name a few

Cash Bar 06-26-2010 08:57 PM

Everyone of those(except maybe Lavey) owners would most likely rather have an OL. IMO.

+1 I know those are all great built boats but except for Lavey Craft, most are bare bones stripped down boats. Sit down, not much of a cabin, etc. Not what most people are looking for.

It's not even a comparison. OL is making the 28 footer for the owners who don't want to hasstle with their 50 footers to go for a ride. Also, OL is not building the 28 to RACE, they're building it for pleasure. Therefore....Activator, Kryptonite, Superboat, Phantom would be out of the picture for comparison sake. I think the 28 is going to be an awesome boat. It'll be the first of it's kind. Imagine 28 footer with the anemities of their usual boats. It's going to be killer.

I hope the guys at OL's, when pricing these boats, know the differance in being "Proud" and being 'silly'...

That's the key, as Von Bongo said. The price can't be crazy, even if it is an OL.

Honest Question. Who do you think outerlimits is building this boat for? Current OL owners or the above average joe? I'd imagine its going to be 150-200k

Thats the beauty of a completely custom boat.
It can be as bare, or loaded as you decide when you build it.

Im curious to see what OL does with the interior space on their 28 ft boat, does anyone have the actual measurements and dimensions yet?

Uncle Dave

Stormrider 06-27-2010 09:46 AM

OL 28 will be a 5man sitdown boat.
IMO, the cabin is just storage and a place to get out of the rain. No 28 go fast has the amenities for my family of 5. Actually, no 28 has it either... not just a go fast.

So, it can be compared to any 28... saber, pantera, sutphen, activator, joker, extreme, etc. But it will be an OL and they are striving to keep the basic 525 boat near 150k.

I look forward to the addition to the market place.

I applaud the effort but have you ever seen an OL that didn't have a crazy price?

Sunsation's 288 with all the option boxes checked could hit 125K easily with a 496 HO- http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o34165-en.html

The 32 SSR can hit 200K w/HO's- http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o32517-en.html

The new 36 hits 300K- http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o32822-en.html

If OL does it you can add 100K to those numbers easily simply because it will have a custom interior (Sunsation uses McCleod) and OL will start with blue motors vs. black.

Now those are MSRP numbers and certainly no one pays that rate but for those of you dreaming of a 99K OL it isn't going to happen......

Another Mikey vs Reggie shootout. Maybe Mikey could even stay around and run, not slip off in the middle of the night like the last time.

The Doc is looking pretty strong! :drink:

I can't believe I didn't ask about prices for these two models. We go back a few years and conversations tend to stray all over the place. That's my story, at least, and I'm sticking to it. I will call and get prices tomorrow.

A couple of things though ... whoever said the new Outerlimits models won't be affordable for the "average Joe" is correct. Jupiter's price correlations with Sunsation are really appropriate for the sake of comparison.

The other thing? Mike Fiore, like most builders I've spoken with in the past 18 months, thinks the "average Joe" new-boat buyer, meaning the guy who used to buy in the $100,000 to $200,000 range are mostly gone for the time being. It's not that they can't swing the payments, it's that thanks to the credit crunch and the devaluation of their own assets (homes, in particular), they can't qualify for the loans. So that's not the buyer he's going after, ergo what I believe will be pricing that is consistent with other Outerlimits models.

In this market knock 30% off those #'s:eek:

freshwaterfiend 06-28-2010 10:38 AM

I was told $150k for the 28 footer (about what a Lavey Evo 28 with good power would cost you) and $300k for the 36 footer hopefully with 525s.

Those don't seem totally off the mark to me. Have you priced a 38TG with 525's lately?

DaveP 06-28-2010 01:07 PM

Mike & I had a good talk today and were able to get things cleared up. A small misunderstanding on both sides.

And Mike I apologize for making a derogatory comment on a public forum.

150-300K gives you a lot of choices today both new and used......

As far as the new TG, have you noticed how many leftover 08-09's seem to be hanging around unsold. I think the buyers have reached their pain threshhold on price limits......

The OSO/700 boat is still asking 379K for a 3 year old boat with ugly paint and it has hours on it!

So why hasn't that spectacular machine sold? The 39/700 boat is the best boat Cig makes. You have had the cheapest 39/700 boat out there for years.......yet not sold.

Yep, must be my eyes....................:D

4195 06-28-2010 06:03 PM

If Outerlimits came out with 525 36 footer for under $200k I would go order it tomorrow. The issue for me is I don't want to spend $150-$200k for a 5 to 6 year old boat. If I could buy 35ft plus boat (Active Thunder, Cig,Outerlimits) I would move up. I don't want to look to other models so I keep updating my boat. I just can't jusify a bigger number for a 3 month season. But if they can do it they can have my money!:angry-smiley-038::drink:

I guess the good old days...
I'd rather just stay at a hotel.
A 38magnum flybridge sport fish was barely big enough for my family as i grew up. I have no desire to stay on a small boat cabin... unless i was 21 again moored up off Fire Island.

jmeng 06-28-2010 08:59 PM

Different people use a cabin for different things. I have no desire to spend the weekend on any performance boat but I do want a cabin that I can walk into (not crawl) and have room to sit up. The only thing my cabin gets used for is a place to put the cover, cleaning supplies, bumpers, ice chests, duffle bags, chips, rafts, noodles, and all the other crap people bring on the boat for the day. Plus room for the woman to go down there and fix their hair, makeup, or whatever else they do. Plenty of boats have enough room for that. 27 - 29' Formulas, Fountains, Baja, Powerquest, Sunsation, Velocity, Donzi, etc. A crawl under the dash cabin is useless to me, might as well get a cat...
