Dose Anyone Know What The Speed Record For A Single Vee Bottom Is

Is there a single gas engine VEE bottom with a prop speed record....
I'm sure its in some little boat....
But with Reggies Vee bottom record, I have not heard of any single prop gas engine in a Vee bottom...
I know the F1 hydros run 140's with there OB...but I'm talking a vee hull...

Anyone know the numbers...

Thanks

E Colby 07-12-2010 08:48 AM

I had heard that a Howard 28 Bullett with a GT Performance motor put up some big numbers over 100 mph, but not too many people bother with promoting single-engine V-bottom numbers. I'd like to see what the new OuterLimits 28 would do with a big motor.

panicrev 07-12-2010 08:48 AM

i think a stingray with the name triple digits has it. idk the actual speed though...

MANITIE 07-12-2010 09:01 AM

I would think it would be in the 115 to 120's but I could not find it anywhere...
With all the hype with Reggies record...I would think there would be just as much in a single becuase more manufactures could attempt it and not cost 600k+ to build one...and you would not need the 1000+ hp to get there....
I would think in a avg 25 to 30 foot boat...700 to 800 hp would get you over 100 with no problem...

Ron P 07-12-2010 09:23 AM

You should probably spend time looking through the APBA Speed Records.

The OB record on a tunnel hull is 176.???? set many years ago.

ziemer 07-12-2010 09:36 AM

Allison still holds the single outboard V-bottom record @ 129. Was set back in the 80's. ;) 2.4 Bridgeport on an Allison XR2002. :drink:

ziemer 07-12-2010 09:42 AM

Here's a link to the actual record run. ;)

I'm sure it would get you into the 100's, but not into the record books.

My buddy's 20 Cigarette will run just over 100, with an 800+hp engine, so you can use that as a control number.

Do you know if that was a sanction body record and also a kilo or a top speed record....

Thanks for the info....

HTRDLNCN 07-12-2010 09:43 AM

wasnt there a Donzi single engine with an arneson running in the low 100s?

Hey Ron....I'm doing that know...no luck yet....

See ya in a few day....

from the howard website
"award winning 122 mph 28 Bullet, officially the fastest single engine V-bottom ever tested by both Hot Boat and Powerboat magazines,"

MANITIE 07-12-2010 09:51 AM

I found this info about the Allison but it did not say if it was top speed or Kilo run.....

From the info I have it was NOA, and I believe it was a 2-way avg kilo. Allison also holds the record for single engine bass boat at 116+, which was APBA and 2-way avg kilo. ;)

How fast is JC's Activator?

The owner of that boat did actually get it up to 130mph

I was wondering if that was top end at the 122 when tested or kilo...

I need to find out what a sanctioned event record is in a kilo....and thats offical...

Kilo only, or TAF drag boats as well?? Those things really move.

Kilo's....that were sanctioned....I know those drag boats are fast...

We need to look at a actual sanction event with a offical kilo record thats been documented....

Smitty bring that thing out and join us in class 5....

What hp did you guys run and what drive...

MANITIE 07-12-2010 12:44 PM

I was reading on the Howard web site that they ran a 1100 hp engine and got it to run 110...that seems to be a lot of HP for that speed....

I'm still trying to find out what HP was run to get it to 122....

Are you trying to do this in the 27 activator?

I remember JC saying his boat did around 110 as well.

Nope....we know we will be able to get to 100 with the Ilmor 625 in the 27..but not the 125+
But we are getting ready to start a new build for next year...and one of the things that the C.G. brought up was long distance speed runs which we will be attempting next year and one this year in the Activator....but was asked yesterday if we went with a sinlge for the distance speed runs ,if there was a speed record we could also attempt...which I told them I would look into and how much we would need to do it...

fantastixvoyage 07-12-2010 01:29 PM

since we're talking speed runs is there a place to find the top speeds for the LOTO shootout? Seems easy enough to find the last years # but not the class records.

If the CG wants exposure for top speed runs that would be another avenue to do it.

That is one of the things we discuss last Nov with the C.G, they want us to do starting in the 2010 year and for the furture with them:
Long distance speed records attempts and now kilo speed runs....
The boat we had origanal set to buy was perfect for the long distance attempts but the owner pulled the boat off the market...so we needed something to race for this year and went with the Activator...
We will be attempting a long distance attempt before the years end in the Activator...we need to have all the gremlins out before we make the attempt...and it will be tought in a 27 foot boat...but we will get our feet wet for this year and know what we are up against for the furture

When you see whats in store for us....your going to think were nuts.....

Comment:

That speed was old the same boat hit 130.7MPH and hit the rev limiter again. The subject boat is the only all composite 28 Howard Bullet with a TPI motor in it.

At the time when the article ran that number... NO ONE!... was even close to that speed in a V-Bottom under 30ft.

I was in the boat and hit 118MPH consistently on the limiter not enough wheel.

The boat is still around and is hella fast...another Howard owner is allegedly running a 28 Bullet that is faster but no proof as of yet.

FYI several 28 Howard Bullets currently running [all single engine boats] that can hit 115++ MPH, Tom W., David C, and Steve F. I would say that David C's boat could eclipse the 130 mark with the right conditions and temperature.

The 28 Howard v-bottoms are very stable and impressive. As that platform can hit those numbers consistently whereas other boats are having a great deal of difficulty ie...chine walking all over the water.

Do you know what type of power was being run with the 130 speed....and what was the differance between the 28's that had 1100 hp and ran 110 and the hp that got it to 130....
also did the boat ever run a offical kilo with a sanctioning body when these numbers were run...
Not saying they did not hit these numbers....we are looking for offical numbers for a kilo record to see if we want to attempt in braking it...

Most of our ski race boats here in Aus are capable of 140+mph. None longer than 21'. All set up for reliability so Kilo distance is not a problem.
Check the link below

These guys are running 120+mph with skiers!

MANITIE 07-12-2010 03:15 PM

Don't they use jet drives on them boats....

Yep, George Desmond's 1974 18' Donzi 2+2. Ran 124 with a small block

Rik 07-12-2010 04:54 PM

I believe those "K Boats" run in the 140's as well. Basically nothing more than a 1970's California style shallow V hull with big power. They race them on an oval course like in Parker AZ and such.

rlj676 07-12-2010 05:48 PM

I would bet the fastest single v would be a small "river" boat that would be a shallow V and under 20 ft.

For an offshore style boat that could go in something more than a ripple, I bet the Howard will be the fastest, but not documented.

What happened to the Superboat Y2K that was being built with a turbine?

golfmaxgolf 07-12-2010 06:09 PM

Theres a fella here in ohio with a 253 checkmate i believe was in excess of 120 call him Jason @ Kunkle's Marine in Mansfield,oh I think he's on this board somewhere cant recall his usermane?

Steve 1 07-12-2010 06:23 PM

Try one of these

MANITIE 07-12-2010 06:42 PM

Well one thing is for sure.....

It looks like if a sanctioned kilo run was to be held for the fastest single vee bottom, gas ,prop boat.....there should be a large entree list....just in 10 hours we have heard of over 6+ boats that would run over 120+.....

I'm suprised that know one had sanctioned such an event...
It sounds like it would not be a Fountain event where it would be just Reggie...
It sound like there would be a number of manufactures boats that would represent....

MANITIE 07-12-2010 06:59 PM

I found a old post of JC saying one of the orange 30 Activators with his 1000 HP did 117 mph...
