Even to this day people always ask me if I have GPS in my truck and I say no, it would take the fun out of my road trips !

Chart and plot and away I go !
when Rob and I did that race a few years ago i used a compass and left the GPS off. Felt more comfortable having been brought up navigating that way, my thoughts on GPS are if that thing goes bad you now have zero reference to where you are at. Nailed the turn pin dead nuts no prob. I actually looked forward to loosing sight of land and being out there.

When mapping software really started ramping up i went out and bought a nice big multi feature gps that pretty much for me ended up being just a novelty that tells me how fast I'm going and thats about it, all the other info i already know.

Put them all in ONE CLASS dammit!!!!!

Then you'd actually have something worth talking about.
Interesting you say that Rich. When I was in Sarasota last month looking around the Pits I started wondering what the sport would look like if everyone there sold their stuff and bought brand new single engine 100mph spec racers. Then I started wondering what the sport would look like if you made the boats single crew racers i.e. one guy in the boat does everything. Hmmmmmm.

You and I discussed this very thing at Biloxi in '98 or "99.

It would certainly work, but then guys like Benny, Michael Seebold, Joey Imprescia, JT, Stevie and other real boat racers would outdrive all the wannabe's......... At that moment there would be a real opportunity for a proper spectator sport. You would have to move fast though because the well heeled guys running back in the pack would immediately start petitioning for a bigger hull, more motors, an exclusive TV show about their team.....you know.... the usual bull sh*t.....
