It's not about the class rules....any format is fine...as long as its consistent and immune from people who want to take their football and go home every time they don't win or have another race boat within a quarter mile of their roostertail. Today the Supercat class...(originally a spec'd carbureted 750 class) has Lamborghini's, Supercharged Mercruisers, 750 Sterlings with 900 hp....etc, etc and many of the racers who can run in that class (as bastardized as it has become) are now sporting 1350's, 1500's, and soon coming to a theater near you...1700's...not to mention turbines.
Mike's point is that anybody who owns an Offshore race boat can afford a single engine vee and all of the big boys can afford a Supercat lite......... all it takes is the guts to swallow your checkbook and enter a truly competitive arena.

Your first sentence, to some degree, explains why that class imploded.
And I agree with you. It isn't about the boats in the class. It's about the class in the cockpit.
