I've seen that to. Apparently it's used to measure g-forces on packages sent trough the mail or something? I've never seen it being used in other safety applications. I'll google it and see what I can find.

Accelerometers used for hi G's cost a few $$$. Good ones cost about 2500$ and OK ones around 100$ each. There are also cheaper ones but I'm not sure what acceleration levels they can withstand. You will also need some kind of recording system.

What type of measurements would you like to do?

Not sure just thinking out loud here to see what comes up, trying to apply whats out there. I was wondering if they had any of those patch like things that could do PSI.

There is pressure sensitive paint. But I've only seen it being used for air pressure.

Who is responsible for the design of the canopy on Citron, Talkin Trash, and Miss G? Mystic?

Glassdave, if you want to measure loads on a cockpit i would recommend strain gauges. They only cost a few $ each so you can apply them in a pattern over a large surface.

The strain can be translated in to stress which will help you analyse your design.

i know we're straying off topic here, but my point was that canopy safety and designs aren't strong enough for supercat speeds(120-130ish). or atleast some the current boats are behind and the some of the best might not be enough. if steve1's math is correct the unlimited class boats would need to be built to twice the design strenght as some of the current ones.

so while slowing down the unlimited boats or overall top speed of raceboats in general will not let technology "evolve". its quite apparent that the technology of SAFEY hasn't kept up with the speed.

as for the pod design: would it be feasible to do model testing in a wave tank ?

Maybe a Chopper drop test into seawater.
