THE BIRTH OF A SUPER CAT!

The first 40 ft Motion Super Cat was delivered to our shop on Thursday to start getting rigged for hopefully the APBA Cleveland Ohio race. Congradulations go out to the proud owners Jay & Bob Muller. Edwin@Motion outdid himself on this one! The boat is AWESOME! The man behind the setup and crew chief of the team is Grant Bruggerman. Grant has had his hands in many very fast cats and has worked under some of the best Harold(Smitty) Smith,Bob Idoni of Dirty Laundry and Popeyes fame. I will post pictures of the boats rigging from start to sea trial!
SPONSORSHIP INQUERIES ARE GLADLY ACCEPTED!

Audiofn 06-15-2002 10:47 PM

cowisl 06-16-2002 03:38 PM

Boat looks good. Met Jay at the cape cod race. Great guy.

CigDaze 06-17-2002 08:45 AM

Cool!
What should we be looking for at the races? Is there is a name for it yet or any major sponsors as of now?

Popcorn?....Did I miss something?

Goodfella 06-17-2002 08:58 PM

Hey BajaDaze!
It will problably be J.E.M. Motorsports for a while until I
or someone else lands Jay a good sponsor. I took some
more picts today my webmaster was out so we could not
load them onto the computer.

THANKS FOR THE INTEREST!

DanL 06-17-2002 09:23 PM

what about your people skills,Mike?

The way you handle yourself, maybe you should try and land him a paying sponsor. I hardly know anyone in this biz and just handed $20k to a supercat team last weekend, plus the $25000. in start money at the worlds. Not to mention the $2200. a month to 2 bracket cars and over $100k to a Busch team last year.Give it a shot!!

Goodfella 06-18-2002 08:16 AM

We have a few potential sponsors that we and I are talkng to at the present time. One of them is a customer of mine in the St Petersburgh area.

CigDaze 06-18-2002 09:13 AM

Thanks Goodfella!
Good luck with the project!

BODYSHOT1 06-18-2002 10:46 AM

Good Luck Jay!

..look forward to seeing the Motion in action!! :D

Boatlesss 06-18-2002 12:42 PM

The boat looks an awful lot like a 40' Skater. Almost to much alike.

Is this just another splash?

racerXmarine 06-18-2002 02:00 PM

I was down at Edwins shop last month and saw that but he has another one beside it that just came out of the molds very nice.

Audiofn 06-18-2002 02:27 PM

Goodfella: In the picture titled "rigging begins" What are the clamps that you are using to hold the hoses in place? Do they stick on or are they bolt on?

Jon

NW_Jim 06-18-2002 03:03 PM

Good eye Jon. I'm curious now too. Looks like they were just pushed on. Must be a new type of AN fitting.

CigDaze 06-18-2002 03:06 PM

They look a lot like "Click Bond" products to me.
We use them all the time here at the plant for attaching stuff.

They work great and I would highly recommend them to meet a variety of attaching needs.

Check it out: Click Bonds
Another page

Audiofn 06-18-2002 03:33 PM

Maybe it is because I am using cheap ones or something but all the ones that I have ever used have fallen off. :( Even on smooth surfaces. I wonder if they have some super bonding crap on there. They would be great for a lot of the work I do as long as I know they will hold well :D:D

Jon

CigDaze 06-18-2002 03:38 PM

Jon,
Indeed there are different grades.
We use them in commercial and military aircraft applications as well as for some transportation work we've done. They are great when used within their designed load capacities. Of course, preperation is key. We use them for attaching small items of mass, securing wire and hose runs, etc.

Audiofn 06-18-2002 03:41 PM

If you can find out who you are using that would be great. Thanks

Jon

Goodfella 06-18-2002 09:28 PM

Hey Audiofn,
Those clamps that are holding the fuel lines are
manufactured by a company named Panduit. They
are made of polycarbonate and attach by using
a self taping screw through a hole in the center
that is countersunk. Then a Thomas&Betts tie
wrap holds the hose in place. Grant is trying to
use as much light weight high tech rigging materials
as possible to keep the weight of the boat to a
minimum. We need to try to keep in front of
DRAMBUIE! :D Also racerXmarine
is correct Edwin is building another one as we speak to
run in the same class. It was purchased by a couple
gentlemen from Puerto Rico. MORE PICTURES TO COME!

SPONSORSHIP INQUERIES ARE GLADLY ACCEPTED!

Audiofn 06-18-2002 10:16 PM

Thanks Goodfella. I know Panduit and I can now get my supplier to get some for me. I figured it was held on with a screw with the rough surface and the beating it is going to take. :D:D:D

Moving ahead of schedule....... Heard you might make it to Savannah?!

Goodfella 06-20-2002 08:08 AM

We are keeping our fingers crossed! Both enignes should be done and ready to install by this weekend. Ken Fluke just has to do some more dyno testing and there good to go. Driveshafts are ready to be picked up today. The only vender that might throw a wrench in the plan is C.M.I. the header manufacture.
But Jeff at C.M.I. thinks he can pull it off.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 06-20-2002 09:16 PM

Too OLD,
Was wondering if you could snap some photos of the inside of the canopy as it nears completion for us. Jay and Bob are looking to be having one hell of a Supercat here. I was with Jay last weekend he was briefing me on the project. Best of Luck to the Team.

Goodfella 06-20-2002 10:12 PM

Hey DPT,
Grant and I are taking the photos and my threadmaster
Too Old is taking care of the cropping and posting and
doing an awesome job at that. All the wiring should be
completed by the end of this weekend. As soon as the
cockpit gets a little more organized I will shoot some
photos of it. I will be posting some pictures of the
engines pretty soon. Ken Fluke is dyno testing them
this weekend. Grant is working his you know what
off! His wiring is UNBELIEVABLE!

SPONSORSHIP INQUERIES ARE GLADLEY ACCEPTED

CigDaze 06-21-2002 10:05 AM

Thanks Goodfella!
The boat's looking great. I like the abundant use carbon-fiber in the panels. Rigging looks top-notch, well organized.

Goodfella 06-25-2002 08:22 AM

Got one of Jay's Super Cat engines on the dyno last night, trufully
this morning 1:30 AM we made the first pull. Ken Fluke @ FLUKE PERFORMANCE
made a comment that the engine was REALLY REALLY FAT(to much fuel).
We called it quits until today.

Goodfella 06-25-2002 10:07 PM

I promised Ken I would not give out the EXACT HP #. But I can tell you this 700+
He retuned the carburater today and it's running SWEET! He has a couple of other tricks up his sleeve. The true test is out on the race course. Bob&Jay flew in today to check out how things are coming along and were very impressed. Trim tabs get installed tommorrow. I also heard from my buddy Jeff @ C.M.I. he assured me the headers would show up on time. THANKS!!!

CigDaze 06-26-2002 08:27 AM

Thanks for the updates. This is a great story to follow...
Looks like things are moving along rather well.

Best of luck!

tico 06-26-2002 01:49 PM

Grant, Great work as always. i just found this thread. You cant find a more meticulous rigger. Good job cricket.

yahoo 06-26-2002 03:02 PM

Whats up with the Speedo ? Is this a pleasure boat ? No race boat has a speedo. Try GPS !!!!

After the motor is ready, you need to dyno with wet headers, like the ones on the boat and all the belts on the front of the motor.

You will be suprised how much HP you lose.

Curtis
