It comes down to what you want to do, and where you boat. I have both a 38 Fountain, and a 20' CC outboard. I find myself using the CC more hrs, than the Fountain. Easier to clean, less fuel cost, ect. But that said their is no replacement for the sound of twin blown big blocks. If its just about speed, some of the new CC's run in the 60 mph range with twins, unless you are talking a single cat, most single V's are runing 60-70 mph. With small kids, a nice CC may fit the bill for both needs.

There are lots of 28ft+ high hp single engine applications on this forum. Should be easy to find. Their always either tering up their motor or their drive or both.
I'd get the CC with twins, I'd look for an oceanhawk, midnight, intrepid, contender, etc.

my boat runs mid 60s and its always been thought of as painfully slow but now with these CC's you get one that does 60 and its all cool......please explain
It seems lots of people favoring CCs have another "real" boat......you should get a 29 beek with a 525, will run 75 have a cabin, great handling boat or a 28 AT with a real cabin and a head, both have lots of room in the bilge, both have a wonderful vee eight!

CC at my Mom's place on Lake St Clair. A pontoon boat at my Dad's place on Norris Lake and my 342 on the OH river here at home. Three very different bodies or water, three different boating experiences, all enjoyed!!

mike i bought a 35 donzi center console twin merc 250 verados use it down in clearwater,fl,i have owned and used all types of boats and i really like the donzi, you can play out in the rough stuff with the offshore hull and still cruise around the intercoastal in comfort ,easy to get in and out of,easy to maintain outboards it runs about 60 with the 250s,the 35 donzi can be bought in your price range and resale is pretty good ,get the verados,a lot to like ps,dts throttles, super quite,of couse the ultimate would be to have both types of boats, nuthing like the sound of some sweet big blocks
