nice looking motor, the bilge is nice as well. What type of paint did you use?
|
Thanks Fred....a mans work is never done..... by the way Roxie Heliarced those motor mounts... she turned out to be a natual welder .. gotta love it :)
That bilge paint is Pettit Easypoxy from west ...seems to be pretty good piant Ive been known to just hang out in there for hours on the weekends ... so far no wear or scratches...we'll see when the hardware starts banging around  |
Nice looking set up!!! What is it going in?? Keep us posted as to how things go
Jon |
It's going in a '74 20' cig .....if it wasn't raining it would be in now... oh well no hurry at this point...am thinking of setting it in and laying out the new plumbing and ect pull it and tidy up in comfort with a final fit when i am happy with it...
|
Looks great!!! Good luck with it...
|
looks pretty cool man . . . .   . . .what all did you have done to the motor, or is it double top secret. :D
|
It's a triple top sectret 383 stroker ..... nothing special really.. just a good reliable roller engine..375 hp .prob gained 65-70 hp with this verses my other small block which was very tired....
fax those drawings on down Fred we love to fab stuff...... funny how some people can just pick up a stinger and start welding....I am always amazed by her.... |
Hey Nasty. Looks cool!
|
Hi Mark, The motor looks great. Do you have any Pic's of the boat posted? I am impressed, you said Roxie has many talents.
Philip Is there a Whipple in the motors future? |
So what Kinda parts you have in that mighty mouse? I built a 383 over the winter and love it.. runs like a raped ape... around 400 hp on a good day... went up 4" in pitch and went from 59 to 73 so far.. still going up 1" more in pitch to bring the rpms downt to around 5300...
good luck and it looks great... |
I had a par of 383's in an old Scarab I used to have. You can REALY make them run good. Good luck!
|
Nasty,
Nice looking motor and blige! Did you have your motor done locally? MD |
That thing looks good.
What kind of valve covers are you using? Is that your original pulley/belt setup? I'm running an alpha, but have considered going to a bravo style pump, which would mean I'd have to go with that same setup. Mike |

Hey Philip....no whipples in this one.... but you can count on at least one in the next boat :) am staying with my volvo drive so I didn't want to stress it too much ...we plan on hanging this boat in the living room of our next house ... so gotta keep it in good shape.... A guy can dream can't he ? Actually being a 74 and a little rare we are trying to keep it all original minus this engine which .... It's killing me !! cause I am one to never leave anything stock ...
whent thru the drive too.... |

Traviss... been following your posts about the PP am thinking I'll be playing the prop guessing game soon myself... and will prob find out the cost of a couple rehubs as well ... spinning this Volvo I am kinda limited..
I got this engine from Doug at Powertorque decided on the serp belts for some reason. ... less to go wrong really...and carry one extra belt ...my old set -up was v belts... I just got everything new for this engine.... from starter to power steering pump .. everthing.... although I am left with a sbc on the shelf and all the acc. I'll find something to do with them..:) need to find a sweet 16 w/out an engine for my little welder:) Philip ...here's the boat |
no she passed on the painting....:D I had Speedmaster in Deland go thru the drive .... they also painted it ... Kinda sucks as this was suppose to be a fairly quick project...and the time frames I was told the work would be done in were faster than I could have finished ...well we all know how that goes ...could have done all this myself... Live and learn

Good lord....was a month since I posted this....and I'm still not done...next time I wonder what is taking someone so long I'll keep this engine install in mind almost done though :) :)

thanks Tantrum.......I do enjoy doing things 2 o r3 times...:D
T2x I'll tell her...she just grins whenever I mention our trip up there..looking forward to another...take care |
That looks great! Good luck with the rest of the install... :)
and like they said.. perfection takes time ;) Travis |
Traviss did you get that piston taken care of ? What pistions were you running?
|
yes i did.... took motor out on the 2nd of july.. had a piston next day aired from florida and ordered a set of rings.. was running on the 4th... :D
They are SRP forged pistons ( #138103) My uncle thought the piston looked like it failed for no reason ( weak part of the piston) and our 2 stroke buddy thought it looked like detonation, but all the others were fine.. and my timing was only 32 total with 89 octane... now i burn 94 octane just incase that was the problem... I have 12 hrs on it since i put the new piston in.. we are off to cumberland next monday the 29th and taking it with us.. I sure hope she don't break on me, i'l have every tool we have and all the parts, but its hard to fix a shortblock on the lake LOL! I am dead broke, $300 in my bank account, i can't take a nother failure of this .. that problem cost me... $157 for the piston, $137 for the rings, and my trim pump that week $125... Thats a months pay for me.. i am running low, make enough to just buy gas, thats it. :( .. ... I'l have a pic of the piston when i get a camera out... |
that was a quick fix....good deal..running a bit low on the funds here too...just pressure tested my exhaust pipes I was gonna use....the weld at the flange is cracked on one....guess i have to bite the bullet and buy new exhaust...too scared to reweld it..I'll just worry about it all the time....
have a good time and be careful out there....seeya |

Thanks Fred.....tomm is the day....I've been screwing with this thing long enough....just hope the exhaust fits....it looks questionable.....only one way to know for sure.......
|
Hi Fred. It's Rox, taking over Mark's Keyboard. Wanted to say hi to everyone else on here too.
:) |
Great looking project. Inspires me to get back after the Magnum, been kind of down since the sinking.
Anyway, just gotta ask about the drive. The Magnum has a Volvo too and supposedly they are like dragging bricks around. Yours looks like it has a nose cone and modified skeg. Tell me more when you get a chance. Can't afford to go bravo or Arneson right now. Thanks in advance and it really does look incredible! |
For one reason or another I had missed this thread.
GREAT looking boat, and it seems you are well on your way to a sweet boat! And one you can hang in your next house! (Gonna be one hell of a ceiling!) Pretty helper too, there is "usually" but not always a great "helper" behind a dude with a great boat. Keep the pictures coming and all the data too. Good Luck. Bryan |
Awsome!
Mark, Roxy!
The boat is awsome!! Classic and timeless! These boats are works of art. You and Roxy should be very proud of her. I hope the engine run up and sea trial go well. Please keep us posted. Philip |
Sorry about that belly shot...:D I have got to have a talk with my photo editor . ..
Phillip ...thanks we are very proud of her...and plan on keeping her for a long long time...hope you and the Mrs are doing well...We will prob be up in your kneck of the woods at the end of Sept maybe we can catch dinner Bryan....you are so right...I would be lost without my beloved wife...not to mention I'm tired of welding.. Wildfire wish i could tell more about this Volvo...I do know it has a nose cone not sure about a modded skeg...I'll have to look into that ..I do know they are not the most efficient drive nor the strongest...(although somehow they earned the nickname "rockcrusher" ) Galen at Speedmaster was recomended to me be John Pompi in Daytona....knowing of him I took his word and dropped it off to be completely gone thru..and finished...Galen claimed I would have no problem with it for this application 370-380 hp ...some have said just be easy on the holeshots....I baby this boat anyhow ...it was pretty pricey to recondition it , and I may have been able to hang a bravo for not too much more , maybe quite a bit more , but wanted to mantain the original equipt as much as possible |
She welds? My kind of gal, F the kitchen....
"Honey, put a bead here, I have rod!" :) Bryan |
:D :D :D exactly !!
