hp/tq, hull efficiency, weight of the boat, etc all come into play but I use 200lbs = 1.5mph and that will get you close and seems to be a fairly straight scale.

HP vs mph is not a straight scale however. Meaning if you have a 55 mph boat and want to achieve 65 mph it will take considerably less hp to achieve vs currently running 80 and wanting 90. Going from 55 to 65 may only take 120hp(12hp per 1mph) while going from 80 to 90 may take 200hp(20hp per 1mph). Again, efficiency, weight, etc all come into play.

Default 29 Fever-Whippled??

You guys are really helpfull, one more question?

What if i wanted to put the Whipple kit on it ,i'm guessing the 525 would be purfect for that and hold up and if you don't do hole shots , it should be a good package and run near 90mph, but will it handle it?OH one more any one running a shorty imco lower on any of these 29's?

Thanks

Im not going to recommend bolting a blower to a stock engine.

Ever.

I had Whippled 525's in my boat before Eddie Young built me some new bullets. I never had any issues with mine, I'd give Dustin @ Whipple a shout and he can tell you what works the best for that combo...

Word of advice with a twin engine 29.....Always race from a completely dead stop and always race from a point here to there not an unlimited distance. With twins and the tabs even halfway down a 29 planes like a ski boat, typical fast single vee is a complete slug out of the hole. A twin 29 is a lot of times so far out ahead in a race like this that the guy in the single gives up and turns off. Hey, got to play to your boats strengths.

There was a 29 that ran at Torch Lake for a few years. Had a 500EFI and the boat ran well. Torch doesn't get rough but it gets "sloppy" and his boat ran through it very well.

I would enjoy the boat for a awhile before thinking about making it faster. You may find it suits your needs. If not you can always entertain the supercharger. Whipple has good kits that include the ECM reprogram. My concern would be the head gaskets and possibly the heads.

and detonation because its already high up there as its designed to perform on pump gas unblown now.

and valves and valve seats

and oil temperature which can skyrocket under a 100HP higher load.

and insuring that the injectors aren't over 80% load when running WOT.

and then the xtra speed overloads the wimpy power steering leading to the need for external steering.....

its already high up there as its designed to perform on pump gas unblown now??? I don't even know what that means. Not trying to be a smart azz but of course it's designed to run on pump gas. Merc isn't going to design it to run on race gas. They're an 8.75:1 aluminum head engine designed to run on 87 octane.

Last I knew valves and valve seats were in the head? Maybe they moved them recently? Are they in the oil pan now? (now I am being a smart-azz)

Injectors and oil cooler, easy stuff IF they need to be replaced.

Yes the list CAN grow quickly when supercharging. However I know of a few boats running modest boost that had minimal mods that run flawless. The key is in the set-up.

Full hydraulic steering would be needed. IMO it's needed with a stock 525 and very well may already have it?(Can't remember if it was posted)

The guy asked about a certain boat and the thread turns into a big-dik contest.

Given blowers create compression you cant put much more into an engine setup to perform without a bower.

Take a look at the chart supplied by BDS.
http://www.blowerdriveservice.com/techcharts.php

Whipples run cooler and you can get away with a bit more but not by much.

Does the 525 use hardened valve seats? Whose valves? obviously not sodium filled stock.
Those edlebrock heads arent exactly a paradigm of high performance engineering so in terms of detonation quelling they are at bottom of the chart compared to a Brodix, AFR, or dart setup.

Sure you can replace stuff and add stuff - you just have to check it - and do it.

Never seen a bolt on one last more than a season or two myself (including mine that I set up correctly) Set up is critical but there is more to it than just set up. If you get a bad batch of gas at at the marina or the far end of a lake like mead or powell that only has 87 and crappy 87 at that - you're done.

I love it when guys say "I only put good premium gas in my rig" ...well with fountains legendary small tanks you dont always have a choice where you fill up.

Engine bone connected to the steering bone?
Not sure the 525 engine option has anything to do with hydraulic steering (now Im being a wise guy).

Im pretty sure there wasn't an ITS option on that boat.

Guy brought up supercharging, and while were all chiming in we might as well "lay it out."

Default whipple 525

Gentleman,
There is a nice whipple kit that reprograms ECU etc. and we can pull the heads ,check the valve springs and put the better head gaskets in it and you are good to go,its a low compression enging and timing isn't way up there either to run 87 gas.
I've heard of a lot of these packages doing well.

I won't be happy with it at high 70's so we'll do something if i get one.

Will let you know how it turns out.

The 29Fever sounds like a good pleasure boat.

Thanks
