Funny, more rules.
They passed a law against cell phones and driving a couple years ago. I see everyday teenagers, workers, home makers, cops, elderly folks all on their cell phones. These are the same people that want more and more rules and they don't even follow the ones that are on the books. What make them think stupid people will when they don't?

T2x,

You pretty well nailed it right on the head there - as usual. And our totally useless / opportunistic Senator Chuckie is right smack dab in the middle of all of this. This will sadly guarantee only one thing - his re-election.

I have a 33'carver with 12.5 beam. Close to this boat that tipped over. With the above formula I can have 27 ppl on board. Im certain I could do that on my boat with no danger. The problem with this silverton was not the boat or number of people but the adult idiots on board that thought it was entertaining to get 17 ppl on the top side (flybridge). Half of them probably fatsos. The captains fault no doubt but the 16 other "adults" need to examine thier own stupidity and the result. Stupid is as stupid does.

Just passing along what is being taught in the safety courses. I would think that common sense would prevail but with most of these stories this doesn't seem to be the case.

Several years ago, I witnessed one of the most horrific, then funny things. There was a party barge cruising around close to the ramp where I launch. Looked overloaded to me, but there WAS enough seating for everyone. Most of them were dressed in casual attire, not lake wear. HMMM Well, I guess they had a jetski along with them in their group and it was buzzing around doing what alot of these idiots do. Welllll, apparently the two on the jetski got a little close, to the PB, everyone on board wanted to SEE what was going on and rushed to one side. We watched in painfully slow motion as the whole PB first sank on that side, then did a slow roll over! NO ONE EVER MOVED!!! They all just went over with the ship! It was only after we saw that all were ok, and recovered did this turn funny. It just proves, some folks have NO BUSINESS on the water.....

If anything, by this not happening more often, this tragedy should point out just how difficult it is to get together a group of twenty or so adult idiots.
