Isn't the Cheif mold based off the 41' Apache?

The Punisher is gorgeous! I love the old school lines. So psyched to see Checkmate bringing out new models in this hard times.:drool1:

Having never shopped for a boat like this, I'm curious if the price on it is where it needs to be. Anyone out there think this is a great price for a 41' twin 700 merc off-shore? Is this boat going to make some other brands look overpriced?

What is the starting point for 40-43 footers from the other brands that this boat is up against?

but now if you take off 35% from the msrp that is normal y done then your at the $ 325 k price range . then I think you will have a seller :)

With as many people that have bought old Apaches and thrown $100k+ into them, I think the boats will sell considering the hulls lineage. It seems like a more reasonable alternative to me.

Yes, Apache boats were built like battle tanks and weighed a ton, but the new Punisher is not trying to compete with ancient history. They've taken a classic offshore design with a "relatively" newer step bottom and rebuilt the boat using todays materials. The boat is a pleasure boat; not a race boat. It's built the same way many other boats are built (end grain Balsa cored, bi directional 1708 glass, hand laid, vinylester resins, etc). Checkmate's mold work is second to none, in fact in my opinion they're one of the best. I believe Checkmate will do very well with the Punisher 43. With Fountain, Baja & Donzi all dorment, Checkmate is giving the public an attainable new 41' high performance boat at a reasonable price and filling a void that many of the other high performace builders
(Outerlimits, Nortech, Skater, MTI, Mystic, Cigarette, etc.) are missing. So let the Apache fanatics blow off their steam.....it will be entertaining when they get passed by a new 43' Punisher with half the horsepower and weight!!

:thankyouthankyou:

It's a awesome boat, every time I walk around her I am amazed at how deep she is, tons of freeboard but still has great lines.

ICDEDPPL 11-09-2015 05:43 PM

Gotta say was pretty impressed how flat and level it ran in some snotty water.

Are you talking about your boat?

Nykamp 11-09-2015 05:57 PM

It's probably just as deep or deeper then mine. Very impressive to run the same speeds as mine with basically 600 less hp.

14 apache 11-09-2015 06:15 PM

Yes they are nice boats both of them.
Propellers have changed a bunch and dry sump drives would help the older Apaches.

This boat is venturing into the big boat market and needs to match performance and features offered by the competition to be successful. Unfortunately top speed is a huge selling point that this boat needs to improve or it will be a one off production like the Chief boat.

I like Checkmates and respect their ambition in tough times to revive a big powerboat in an ever so shrinking market.

Didnt the 42 chief run 110 with 700s and arnesons? I think the hefty price tag is what kčeping more chiefs from being built

I don't think it's running any faster than we are.

Is that one a pleasure boat? I heard 105. I think they are claiming 95 for the Ilmor boat.

check300 11-13-2015 07:43 AM

It is a race boat.

I think it is the company owners causing the issue with production.......even more so now with Saccenti no longer involved.

kreed 11-13-2015 08:29 AM

What changes were made to the boat to go from 91 MPH to 99 MPH ?

Precision Power Offshore has worked on blueprinting the bottom. It's not perfect yet but more work will take place this off season. In addition Ben's been adding to the areation.

kreed 11-13-2015 09:11 AM

Cool. Props still spinning out? Where are you at with prop size? Awesome boat. Always loved that boat, glad you guys are getting it dialed in....I sold my TG to a nice guy in your area, OLD SCHOOL is the name of the boat. Not sure if your friends or not, but he was putting bigger power in the boat.

check300 11-13-2015 09:53 AM

The props are turning in. The hull is much happier that way.the 99 was with a set of borrowed 34's. Until we get the hull perfect, I'm not going to buy any props.

Two boats in stock (Warpath and Firefly) ready to go, they can build more. I think it's the slow sales in new performance boats causing the delay in production. :stooges:

Congrats on the 99 mph!

The checkmate looked fantastic at Boyne Thunder! Wish it would have been a bit rougher to see it dance through it.

You got 8 mph just out of blueprinting/tweaking the bottom? Very impressive. What is being done to "add" to the aeration?

There were additional and larger holes drilled. The bottom need quite a bit of work. There was a fair amount of hook. It still isn't perfect but obviously it's significantly improved.

hogie roll 11-14-2015 09:20 AM

Damn, with a pulley and tune plus new props you'll be embarrassing all the old big power apaches.

A C7 will run circles around an old Vette, But given the choice I would still rather have a split window.

I think it is the perfect analogy the first 41 Apaches came out in 1985, so that boat has had 30 years of technological advancement which is a lifetime in today's world. Don't get me wrong it is a nice boat, I just don't see the technology in it that other boat MFG have embraced.
