I have never been in a 41 Apache. Some real reviews from OSO members would be cool to hear about. I am a big fan of this old school vid! You gotta watch the whole thing......

Theres a reason they had to separate them in offshore racing (cats/vees) It just wasnt fair to the vees.

I covered a race...a real race over a long course, at 10/10ths with pros in the cockpit, not a bunch of random powered, civilian Poker runners ...who go fast for a while, then back off, then go fast, etc.. in Ocean City Maryland back in the 90's..... The seas were legitimate 6 to 8's with an occasional 7th wave thrown in for jollies. Maybe if the seas had been 10 foot plus a different outcome might have occurred...but nobody races in those conditions....except some Great Lakes guys who think they cruise in 25 foot seas. :P :D P.S. yes this race is on tape. Bob stated I have raced all over the world and this water is the worst and I won't be back. Friday it was flat and by 10:30 am we had to use gps to get back to the harbor could not see the bow of your own boat fog rolled in. Sat and Sun. was north winds and 6'+ rolling and breaking waves. |

Thump, what wave height would you say stops you from being able to run on top of the waves ? Ever been in that situation?

Ever been in that situation? wind direction, lake orientation, rolling or breaking sea's, length of running surface, set up, experience all play a part. But Lake Michigan can be real fun at a 5 - 6 roller then get real nasty on a 7 on up been out in seas that we could only be at 2000 rpm and slowly ride the bull home. and that is in a 37 or larger hull. Makes the cork in the bathtub !!! For the safety people watching and I know you are :party-smiley-004: I have always asked all passengers if they are worried or any-bit scared tap me on the shoulder and we will turn back it is not worth it especially when they loose sight of land, and that is where I love to boat out in the open water. Well except for one guy I did scare him a little but he needed it :evilb: |
